Default USPS Tracking Question

Alright, so I sold a card on Ebay about a week and half ago. The tracking number never showed any updates. I started getting a nervous so I sent an email to USPS customer service to see if they could locate the package. I haven't heard back from them by email, but I just checked my tracking number it says "PACKAGE RESEARCH CASE CLOSED" and that's it.

I've never had this before.

Anyone ever had this?

I'm hoping it's not a lost package and it's just slow in transit. I decided for the first time in months not to insure a package worth $250 or more. I did have signature confirmation, but that was it.

I was told shipping labels created on PayPal/eBay take longer to update then those purchased directly thru USPS, not sure how true that is but that's what a supervisor told me at my local PO. I shipped 2packages same time and one updated regularly while the other never did.

Remember last Christmas season 6-7 days for Priority, no Tracking updates, arriving in wrong city it goes on. Now not insuring a package of $250 was not wise. Hope it updates for you OP.

Item finally started moving Wednesday and arrived today at the buyer's address. The buyer actually opened an "item not received" case yesterday. I'll definitely be fighting this one.

Call Ebay and have them manually review the case otherwise you may lose. I lost a 30.00 one Tuesday where the buyer paid Friday morning shipped Friday evening showed delivered Monday. Buyer claimed he never got it Tuesday and escalated it after I responded that tracking showed delivered and the zip code matched. Ebay siad it was because the tracking said it was delivered AT his mailbox meaning it was left unsecured.

I just noticed the last month or so that when it's marked 'Delivered' it now states "Delivered In/At Mailbox" found this strange until I read your post.

This concerns me because now buyers have an additional 'out' even when it says delivered as you just pointed out, this just drives us as sellers to have to pay the additional cost for signature confirmation now IMO!

Where the #@#@#@#@ does Ebay think it's going to be delivered if not in a #@#@#@#@ing mailbox. Just what protection do we have anymore!!!

I called Ebay this morning and the first person I talked to was trying to tell me my item is still in transit when actually it is at the post office waiting to be picked up by the buyer who had me send it to a P.O. box (had signature confirmation). He transferred me to a different agent and she said I will win my current "item not received" case regardless of if he picks it up or opts for return to sender (me). However, as expected, if he opens an "item not as described case" after this one is closed I am going to lose regardless.

Waiting to see his next move.

And she did not close it in your favor? She should have gone ahead and doen that on the phone. Sounds like they are just telling you what you want to hear. Every time I have called they closed it in my favor on the phone.

Well, I won't have to worry about making a return phone call because my buyer shockingly closed the case and left positive feedback.

I was fully expecting an INAD case opening up soon.

Package research case opened/closed just means that the person called the 1-800 number to inquire about the whereabouts of the item. Delivered in/at mailbox is one option a carrier can use when delivering a package. Others things like with a receptionist, or in lobby are others.
