Default 1983 PSA 10 project

Well I started it and got 20 cards to get going...19 commons and then one good one.

Currently ranked the 31st 30th best of 45 1983 Topps PSA sets.

Will keep scans updated as best I can.

(First 20 purchased)

12/17/14 - The first of the "Big 3"

2/2/15 - Needed some more

Well done on the Rickey! But wait, that Mike Stanton guy played in the 80s?! Haha. Seriously though, this project will look AWESOME when it is done.

It's amazing how good even commons look like that.

I'm sure this isn't your main goal, but does a project like this have a good chance at long term value. The Henderson 10 i'm sure does, but the commons are what I'm curious about.

I'm shocked, based on the condition of the pre 1990 cards I have in my shoe boxes at home, that cards in this condition exist. I guess this fact here may answer my first question above.

Many cards have pop's of under 25 so its a little tough...There are a bunch I will never see for sure and might need 9's for or might need to grade myself but getting as many as I can when I can...Gonna try to do 20-30 a pop per month and see how far it takes me.

Really wanna find a good deal on the 3 big guys.

Techically, aren't they all "commons" since the print run is the same on all of them?

It has to be really hard to get a 10 grade on ANYTHING early 80's, but a complete set? Are you mad?!

Jokes aside, good luck with the set!

Beautiful, I love seeing PSA registry sets. Good Luck on the set, maybe try getting a case and ripping it, to try and get a few self subbed 10's, would be fun, and could help you get a few more 10's in your set if you get a good case

Awesome start. I'm always amazed at how skinny the players from the 1980's were. Right before, well, you know...

Sometimes it's about collecting and not reselling.

Like I said on another board. If $10,000 over 4-5 years meant anything to me I wouldn't do it.

Wow nice to see some people in this world dont care about $10K.

Love it when people brag like this, makes them even more pompous than i originally thought

Thanks for the positive comment. Fact is if you aren't using disposable income on cards whether its to re-sell or to collect you are being foolish.

This is not meant as an investment of any kind or to re-sell ever, it is meant as a collection.

I choose to spend money I earn on this instead of a lot of other things.

I guess that makes me pompous :/

So be it.

Any by the way there are A LOT of people on this board (whether they say it or not) that don't care about $10,000 over a 4-5 year period. A LOT.

Great set to work on. I'm #5 on the All-Time list. The first 500 cards are the easiest. It gets difficult/costlier after that. Go to 4 Sharp Corners website, they sell at 20% discount from their Ebay prices.

I was just interviewed for an upcoming article in SMR on the 1983 set. It will increase interest. Which makes it a double edged sword. You'll have more competition but more people will submit so some of the low pop cards will come down in price.

Enjoy the challenge. It's an underrated set with 3 all time great rookies and most of the stars of the 70's and 80's.

Thanks man and nice to find another person working on it. I made my first purchase from them, will go back and buy more soon. Trying to take my time on it instead of diving in deep.

Good to know the first 500 will be easier to get. It is a very underrated set and has a lot of great players on it.

Hopefully I'll be able to do it all by the time I have kids.

This has given me inspiration to work on 1986 when I finish some other projects. I was born in 1980, but 1986 is the first set I took completing seriously and it will always be special to me... good luck - gonna be great!
