Default Mariota, the real deal?

Calling all the QB experts, there is something about the way he plays and lead that makes me think, he maybe the real deal.

He's got the talent, he's humble, and he's got the work ethic to improve. The guy could turn into the next Russell Wilson. I think he's the real deal.

yeah, he's pretty good. i always thought he was going to be a superstar. i could see chip kelly trying to trade some picks/players to get him in the draft.

Too early to tell.

He looks real good in college though.

A lot will depend on where he goes, the players around him, and most importantly, a good qb coach.

Definitely appears to have good character traits, hard working, humble, respectful. Very athletic and talented. I just wonder, he's always had weapons around him, fast and talented guys, players that were much more talented than their opponents at the college level. Will his game transition to the NFL? Russell has an amazing defense and a good run game, may not be what Mariotta gets when he is drafted top 5? I have only seen him play a few times (last night included), is he a good enough pocket passer to be an effective NFL QB?

Sorry I'm no QB expert but I'm sure there's 1,000s on the board

I'm more of a flanker expert

Marcus M should do fine depending on where he goes and what scheme they use.
Kid seems to be a winner so that's a plus

Overrated talent playing in a spread offense. I find it hard to see him translate to the NFL, he also doesn't appear to have great arm strength and gets a ton of his yards and completions in short distance areas. He missed on a lot of deep throws yesterday sans the TD toss. Saw some people compare him to Rodgers, but saw on an NFL draft forum some Alex Smith with better wheels comps.

My specialty is Punters, specifically backup Punters, but I will say he's got all the tools and the right mindset to be solid in the NFL.

He is a project, and at the top of the draft, there is a very short leash for these types of things. If he could sit for a year or two, it would be different, but that isnt the way it works these days.

Most of the teams drafting at the top of the draft wont give them the time to mature, so you end up with more busts than champions. The good thing is that Football seems to be at the top of his priority list, unlike some other recent top draft picks, which may allow him to pick things up more quickly.

A lot of what was said comes down to gameplanning. Plus, this is the time of year when the same writers who were blowing sunshine up a player's azz all year begin to tear them down until draft day. I know, we're only speculating here but there are so many variables that lead up to a rookie qb's success or failure that i'm not going to take everything written as gospel.

My thoughts watching him are that his accuracy isn't NFL caliber but he's a good athlete and has a solid mental make-up. I'd spend a top 5 pick on him because it's just a chance you have to take in the NFL.

I'm of the opinion that you never take a guy with character flaws in the 1st or 2nd round, no matter how talented they are and, conversely, a guy with great character can be a risk worth taking early.

So, I wouldn't take Jameis at all in the 1st round. I'd take Mariota top 5.

Winston didn't look that bad. Thought he was a better scrambler though? Maybe he is just didn't resort to it that game. I don't watch a lot of College Football, but he looked like he had a good arm and was accurate. Again, I don't watch a lot of college ball, if any, I just try to take in what I see and combine that with what people write or report and come to my own uneducated nowhere near professional opinion.

He is the 2015 version of Johnny Football, not going to do much in the pros but some team will take a chance on him. I think both have similar styles that rely on their running ability and to improvise on the run, that just does not work in the NFL.

I just wish we could have heard the audio when Manziel got tackled and hurt because you would have heard Kuechly say "Son this is not college".

I agree with this but if you are Tampa or Tennessee I just don't see how you pass on him.

If you're taking nothing but pure football talent into account, Jameis is the pick for me. I came away from the game yesterday more impressed with him than Marcus. He was making professional throws all over the field. Marcus just feels like a system QB to me. I'd love to be wrong, though. I'm a fan.

I was thinking the same thing. Even though Oregon won, Winston looked more NFL ready (accurate quick outs to the sideline, strong arm, decent wheels but only uses it as his second option). Mariota was not accurate, plays in a system where the 1st option is almost always open, and runs too much to last long in the NFL. Like was said before, Russell Wilson is a good QB but is more of a product of his very fortunate environment.

If chip kelly can pull off a coup and get him he will do fine in the nfl. If Tennessee or Tampa takes him he will be on the pac 12 network in 3 years like Tim Tebow

So tough to say as being a star in college is almost like being cat among mice. Only so many are good enough to make it to the NFL, let alone make a solid career in the NFL. The true test will be once he gets to the NFL.
