Default Chipper done for the year

Some reports are coming out that the MRI revealed that he torn his ACL. This would suck if his career ended this way.

This is a shame. Horrible way to possibly end a great career. He should make the HOF on the 1st ballot.

And just this past weekend he was starting to swing like the old Chipper again...that news is really too bad.

He is one of like 10-15 guys ever in 120 years of baseball to

Hit over 400 home runs and bat over 300.

1st ballot lock for the hall..

I would be shocked if he ever played again.

According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, Chipper Jones (knee) has informed some close friends that he has a torn ligament in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season.

Jones learned of the tear after an MRI exam Thursday morning. When asked if it was a complete tear, the veteran third baseman revealed that it was "stretched" and that he would likely need surgery. Jones has hinted at retirement already, so it's very possible that this could be the end for him. If so, he'll go down as one of the most underrated switch-hitters to ever play the game.

Arrow We love you Chip!

Well I just got back from my first day of high school and turned on the T.V and heard that Chipper Jones is out for the rest of the season. I can't believe it. I'm so happy that I got to see him hit a HR before this happened.

We love you Chip!

Get well soon Chip!

Have a good one.

Amazing player...and consistent...year in and year out with productive seasons. Offensively (looking at AVG, HR/AB, OPS) some of his best years were in his mid-30s, which I find impressive.

1st ballot for me. Skill position for most of his career (3B) with phenomenal MVP caliber numbers for many years.

Great player, stand up guy, all around good guy who was very good for the sport. No hate whatsoever here but I would not vote him into the HOF. I think the hall is for elete players and that too many people are starting to get in on just great numbers instead of elite numbers. Once again. I really like Chipper and too bad his career is over but not a HOF'er in my opinion.

During his career, who at his position would you say had a better career? AROD is the only 3B I can come up with when you compare him to his peers.

You have to base their HOF consideration on Defense as well as all-star apearances, MVP of the league, Post Season success, etc...

There is a lot more to it than just the regular season numbers. And Chipper should have that covered, don't you think?

I do believe he is the ONLY switch hitter to have career BA over .300 and 400 hrs. Been my fav player since day one, sucks if he ends his career this way.

I have no idea how you could possibly NOT consider Chipper Jones a HOF'er. Absolutely ludicrous to not vote him in first ballot.

Like I said, I do really like Chipper and I mean no dissrespect. He has phenominal stats. I don't personally believe that HOF induction should be based on how you stack up against your peers, it should be how you stack up against all others already in the hall of fame. Also, yes, I do believe that defanse plays a key role but I don't belive that his defensive stats should only be compared to only other 3rd basemen. That would mean that every HOF'er should be merrited HOF status solely based upon their position. I just think that the HOF is losing its luster little by little as it continuously justifies letting outstanding ballplayers in instead of keeping it a sanctuary of only the games most elite. I truly do like Chipper but I just don't consider him elite. Also, before the argument of, well he's better than so and so who is in the hall comes up, yes, I do believe that Chipper is better than some current HOF'ers but thats only becouse I think there are a lot of HOF'ers that dont truly belong in the hall.

Well its just my personal opinion and I am not trying to stir up a hornets nest over it. Also, I have never understood this whole first ballot crap. If a guy who has been retired for 5 years wasn't worthy the first time, what has that player done to increase his worthiness the second or third year? Its the same hall every year is it not? Should the player not be held to the same standard every year of whether he is worthy or not? In my opinion its very black and white. Either a player is worthy or not and there is no difference between a first year and a 5th year HOF'er.

Exactly right take a look at his post season numbers, pretty solid IMO. But as regualr season numbers go how can you not vote the only .300-400hr switch hitter into the hall? MVP, Batting title, and he played with one team his entire career which in this day and age unheard of. To my knowledge his name has never come up in the steroid talks, and in this era that's saying alot.

It's not worth an argument he is hands down first ballot and nothing will stop that.

Batting tittle
Mvp
13 post seasons
1 world series
6-7 all star games
plus he missed one full year when he was 23ish
the face of a franchise for 15 years

there have been 10'000's people play baseball over last 100 years

name another 20 players who have

400 home runs
500 doubles
1500 rbis
lifetime average 300
obp over 400
2500 hits

Well that puts him in a group of about 20 players out of 10-20,000 to play the game

crazy not to think he will make it.

Although i believe there is alot of people on this board there 18-25

So they were 10 years old when he was one of the best players in the league

Boy, I have read some dumb comments and opinions on this board but saying Chipper Jones will not be in the HOF ranks up there with the best of them. Hell if Jim Rice is in the HOF Chipper could play with one arm and get in.

I always love how things get twisted around. I never said, let me repeat, NEVER said he wouldn't get into the HOF. I simply said I don't personally think he is HOF worthy. Also, as far as Jim Rice is concerned, I don't think he is worthy of HOF either so comaring Chipper to him is a non issue to me. Yes Chipper is a better player than Rice but again, I don't think Rice belongs there either. Also, once again, I never said Chipper wouldn't make it, I believe there is a 99% chance that he will, I just don't think he was elite enough, just my personal opinion.

I agree with you on the 1st ballot issues. It says a lot about a guys career when he only gets in after a few years due to a weak class.

But Chipper Jones was/is a great player and as someone said, great for baseball and the Braves. I don't think we're going to see many players staying with a team for their entire career.
