Default 2003/04 topps chrome retail box Lebron Rookie

I just recently picked up a 2003/04 topps chrome retail box. Can anyone let me know the value on this box? I can't find one for sale anywhere.

I can honestly say I haven't seen a retail box of this stuff in 7 or 8 years. Amazing find

I'd say at least $400, of course I could be wrong.

Well were did you grab it from and how much did you pay? B.c it seems like it had to be online/at a LCS and I would assume that would be your best bet for a price.

Got it locally from a guy that has had it since 04. We just got to talking and he said he would sale it to me. Picked it up for 300. He's a collector and knew it's value. Just couldn't really get a good price being i couldn't find anymore like it.

If you say he knows the value and sold it to you for $300, thens its probably worth about $300; assuming you value his opinion.

Well we just figured 300 would be a fair price being that hobby boxes sale for around 500. I couldnt find anything to go on so we just agreed on that price. But being that there so rare from the searching I did it's hard to say.

Retail of this stuff was tricky. I cracked lots of this when released. You weren't guaranteed a base Lebron in a box due to the set size and pack configuration, but I saw x2 Lebron refractors come from retail. No xfractors or gold /50 possible due those being hobby only.

$300 sounds like a very good price.

the last 4 hobby boxes sold between 425-469. 300 for retail seems fair. If put on auction without shilling, it should fall around that number.

"Carmelo Anthony, Nuggets future star". I love it. It's an NBA time capsule.

I had better luck with Chrome retail that year than hobby. I pulled so many LeBron RC's from retail. It was odd.

Ungraded lebron sells for $100-$150. so u would need to get like 2 lebrons topps chrome rc to get the $300 back. And i don't think there's really any rc auto of lebron from the product so probably best deal to sell it sealed.

What if he pulled a LeBron Refractor RC, though? Cha-ching!

So the question than would be to just hold on to it or to open it? I figure I got it for a fairly good deal but than again there isn't another box of this stuff forsale anywhere conpared to the hobby can be easily picked up

If I were just treating it as an "investment", I would just hold onto it without breaking because that way the value would probably only rise, and never decrease.

Sure I could pull the LeBron rookie, or even two of them. At best I'd make $250, or $500 for two, and that's only if they grade at 9.5 gem mint. There's the risk that I'd damage them, and the risk they wouldn't grade that high.

Add to that the time, energy and money spent on what amounts to at best, getting the money back that I spent on the box and I have my answer.

I'm no fun.

definitely my best retail product ever, i got someone around 10-15 packs and got a lebron refractor & a carmelo regular rookie. i wish i still had the lebron refractor although i sold it for a higher price than they were going for up until probably a year or two ago.

i would definitely sell it as a sealed box and try it as a bin with best offer maybe at $599.99 and hope you get a good offer and can sell it off ebay. otherwise do auction form at like $449.99 and see what happens.

No gold /50 or /220 box topper xfractors, both were hobby exclusive only.

True, but a Lebron was far from a guarantee in Hobby as well..

You lose your 1:165 chance at pulling a Lebron x-fractor box topper and no golds.

I would definetely list it with a high bin on Ebay with an obo in hopes that you can get someone really desperate since they are so rare. Someone may think its a "once in the lifetime break" and I use that loosely, and cause them to overpay. Certainly can't hurt I certainly wouldn't break it because with most products its hard to Recoup the money, and even more so with retail.
