Default 1991 Star Pics Favre Auto, legit?

Can anyone tell me if this card is legit? I know there's been quite a bit of discussion regarding this particular card, and whether or not the auto is authentic, as in "signed by Favre in 1991" authentic. I've also heard that the legitimacy of the "fat tip marker" auto has also been called into question. Any help with this particular example would be much appreciated.

I think the auto looks good imo, whether it was signed in 1991 I don't know.
I like reading the strengths and weaknesses because whoever did it was pretty much on par for his career.

I am very familiar with these cards and my honest opinion is this: I don't think so. The problem that arises when trying to compare it to a real one is that so very few that you will come across is real. 95% or higher of the cards on Ebay are counterfeits - even the graded ones. The fat signature is the easiest to call a fake and the other most common style is with a fine tip blue sharpie in which many were signed on the front. The same style is used on many of the back signed and front and back signed variations. When you see a front signed card, rest assured it is a forgery created by Galen Ketron of Jonesborough, Tennessee. Favre never signed the front. Ketron sold hundreds of them over the span of a few years and many of the graded cards were submitted by him. That is when PSA and Beckett were finally realized that many of their own graded cards were counterfeit when presented with evidence. Both companies will not touch these cards now.

Unless you pull it yourself, I wouldn't trust any of the Favre 1991 Star Pics autos to be legitimate.

There are other threads that explain how Ketron went about creating the counterfeits if you do a search.

Is there a true, authentic Favre Star Pics autograph posted anywhere? Would love to see what the actual, real one looks like...

Thank you for the opinion, I've read a few other threads about these cards that you've contributed to, and I was hoping you'd weigh in on this one. I'm surprised that PSA hasn't come out and said something about these cards, or offered some sort of opportunity to have these cards reevaluated, seeing as how their reputation as the industry's premier grader really could be called into question when it comes to these cards.

wow I remember opening star pics. football & basketball. way back in the the day. you got one auto per case of like 20 sets. . I never got a farve but I got lots of other players. unless someone got ahold of the stickers you could fake these. but farve was still with the falcons at the time and # 4 was his number. I belive.. so unless you can find someone with a set of the autos to see what the autos looked like. I would be very wary of buying it. ;]

Does anyone out there have an example of a legit '91 Star Pics Favre auto, if for nothing else than to serve as a comparison?

I know what they look like but do not have a stored image.
Every single one on Ebay, both current and completed listings are not.
That's how prevalent they are in the counterfeit market.
In truth, probably every one of those sellers don't know that they are fake.

I got one in PSA 10 also. It's signed on the back but looks rather similar to this one. I will have to dig it out and compare it. I did buy a case or two and never received an auto.

Who cares about the auto when you got a card of Favre sporting a sweet mullet.

While you make a compelling point, and I am certain that the mullet will make a comeback at some point in the future, I'd still be interested in seeing a legit version of this card.

Default 1991 Star Pics Favre Auto, legit?

According to PSA, this was Favre's signature in 1992, one year after his rookie season. Based on this, I assume his '91 Star Pics Auto should look something like these examples, or a hybrid of the two. Anyone care to weigh in?

Just a heads up folks, Galen Ketron is still at work on these. He owns a storefront in the mall in Kingsport TN, and runs an authentication/forgery ring out of it. He produces the crap he sells in the storm front in the back room. 95% of the stuff he sells is authenticated by his faux company. Whilst in store, he asked if there was anything I was looking for in particular, and I have a feeling that it's because he could've whipped it up really quick if I had needed it.
