Default This "pay after delivery" thing is awesome...

Bank froze my card last week, and I was waiting for the mailed replacement one, so my hands were tied with PayPal. So I'm twiddling my thumbs and of course I get this week's 5X eBay bucks special promo. Figure I'm missing out completely on the promo until a friend turns me onto PayPal "Pay After Delivery"! I was able to pick up some stuff the last couple days and know that I don't have to pay until November 4th. My replacement bank card was shipped out this Monday so I'm sure I'll be able to add it to my PayPal account long before November 4th, and I'll be good to go. Nice little feature, PayPal! Well done!

For those of you who don't know how to active it:
https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/pad-get-pay

Note: This is NOT PayPal credit or anything like it. There's no credit check, no hold, nuthin'. They just pay for you without actually tapping your finances until several days after tracking shows delivered. And you can actually supersede their payment and pay any time you want to.

I use PayPal every day, many times, both mobile and desktop. How have I never seen it before? You been using it awhile?

I got an email about it once.
Not all purchases are eligible though.

You make some good points....never thought of it in that context. I plan to use this only until I get my bank card, but I appreciate the warning!

Another flaw with it is lets say you sell something and end up having to refund and are -20.00 in your Paypal balance. Then lets say you bought an item 2 weeks ago using this feature for 40.00 they can piggyback the -20.00 in your account on that payment, which can result in screwing up your funds and everything like mentioned before.

Aint this what your Credit Card do?

Paypal just rewording the process and make it looks better than it really is.

Bottom line, if you can't for it in cash, you can't afford it.

That last sentence is so incredibly false.

You're clueless. It has ZERO to do with being able to afford it or not. I always pay with PayPal with my debit/credit card. I can't add my temporary card to my PayPal profile because the name on the card is "Valued Customer". I have to wait until I get the permanent card before I can set up my PayPal again. Nothing to do with how much money I have.

Reading is your friend.

If it's not a PayPal gift payment, I try to use a credit card for everything I purchase via PayPal, because it gives me more buyer protection.

Exactly, and this pay after delivery doesn't change that...it still will be paid via my credit card...just after it is received instead of before it is sent.

Again .... aren't you paying it with some kind of "credit" or collateral?

Because I am pretty sure I can just tell them to ship me stuff I want and they will take my words for it.

If that is their business model, then where the hell have I been? I could have gotten all these stuff I wanted.

I did not know about it...interesting...surprised they do it for no fee...not sure what their benefit is in that...but it must obviously make sense for them...seems like the risk would outweigh the reward.....just another way for those that live paycheck to paycheck make bad decisions.....or in the case of the OP...be able to get his banking affairs in order...which is fine

I don't like it at all.
I sold a few things this summer and had a $1200 PP balance. Knowing this, I bought a few PC cards and a pile of silver. I didn't notice that the "pay after delivery" was set as the default, and I wasn't unable to reverse the transactions. So here I am with $1200 in PP and $900+ scheduled to come out of my checking. I guess I could have transferred from PP to my banking, but should I have to? It's my opinion that PP does things like this deliberately. I hate it when they suddenly change the defaults. I've had similar things like this happen in the past were the CC setting were changed.

Nope. No credit and no collateral.

Maybe it is only available to certain people, whose profiles are low to no risk?

With pay after delivery selected as your method of payment, you don't HAVE to wait for them to take the money later. It's just an option. You can pay for the item whenever you want if you want to. Pay the $900 and nothing will be scheduled to come out of your checking.

As I stated before.

Apparently when the pay after option was added.
