Report: Rockies shortstop arrested for domestic abuse

KUSA – Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested on Halloween for allegedly assaulting his wife in their hotel room, Hawaii News Now reports.

Reyes, a four-time All-Star who was traded to the Rockies this year by the Blue Jays in exchange for Troy Tulowitzki, is currently out on bail, according to Hawaii News Now, which includes Honolulu's NBC affiliate.

9NEWS has reached out to the Colorado Rockies for comment.

The second sentence makes no sense. Several MLB players have had domestic violence issues; they're no different than people in any other profession.

Agreed. Not sure why everyone has an issue with the statement. I'm a baseball fan solely because I detest what the NBA and NFL have become. I used to be a fan of all of them but I can't stand what seems to be an endless array of thuggery in those leagues now. Baseball isn't perfect by any stretch but I want it to be and I cringe when players do crap like this. To be fair, I also cringe when non athletes do it, it should be unacceptable by any part of society.

There were whispers around the Jays that the team was worried about "character issues" and that's what ultimately led him to being traded. It came up a few times by different radio guy but was always brushed off because he was so loved in the clubhouse.

I wonder if this can negate his contract. Are conduct detrimental to the league clauses are usually included in the fine print? They should be if not.

The Dallas Cowboys are dealing with the same type of problem with Greg Hardy even though he already served his suspension.
