Angry Yet another Topps Redemption question...

Update: So Topps offered the card as a replacement to another collector (thread here). I called Topps. Just received the follow-up email.

"Unfortunately, we were not able to locate this card. My recommendation is to sub this. Current book value is $300."

Should I take the replacement and run? Post something on Twitter? This situation is certainly frustrating.

Previously...

I redeemed a 2013 Five Star Baseball Retired and Active Autograph Rainbow Parallel of Cal Ripken Jr. nearly 2 years ago. And waited. And waited. Still no card despite
Same Card on eBay!
and
Cal signed all his 2013 Five Star cards in January 2014!

The first two emails from Topps told me to wait 4-6 weeks for "quality control check and inventory" (this was already last year). The latest email from Remy talked about replacement (took over a month to receive a reply).

Do I ask for a replacement? Call or email? or the BBB option?

You should ask them to give you a list of high end Ripken's they have in stock.

They need your ripken for redemption replacements. They will value your Ripken to someone else at $300 and tell you its only worth $200! Then just to kick you while your down they will tell you a $150 card is worth $200.

Topps should finally put an end to the Redemption racket. I've never seen a more convoluted mess in my life, so many stories of unhappy customers. It kills me to read their responses to the Better Business cases online, especially the one where a guy had submitted a high dollar redemption and was obviously not happy with the cheap replacement Topps gave him and Topps claims that Redemption REPLACEMENTS should be random- that it should be the same principle as when you open a box you get a random hit! Uhmmmm no! I buy a good many of my Redemptions online so I KNOW who I should be getting! No sense paying three figures for a damn random redemption when to Topps "random" means "scrub".

I tried finding a 2010 Finest Jason Heyward Gold auto redemption /5 for years until I finally found #5/5 on eBay and the description says it was sent to the guy as a replacement for a totally different card...well what about everyone who was paying $600 for a Gold Refractor Redemption that had a chance (supposedly 1 of every 10 or 10% of the total Redemptions) to hit that card that was never to be made available in the first place?

I'm glad I only have 2 outstanding Redemptions, the Kris Bryant 2015 Tier One auto that Topps seems to have forgot about because they've redeemed about every OTHER Kris Bryant auto RC this year except that one because I bet they haven't been able to "Schedule the Printing of the card" yet, and a 2014 Strata football scrub I pulled a while back that isn't looking like it will be made any time soon either.

Sometimes they are right on sending out some cards, like I was surprised they sent out the Kris Bryant Finest autos real quick this year, but then some times it seems like they could care less about redeeming cards and then you get locked into a huge long waiting game only for them to try to replace your PC card with some guy who's already retired or in the Japanese Baseball League!

Yeah their redemptions are totally ridiculous and I'm one of those that recently filed a complaint with the BBB since I've been waiting over two years on my one redemption from Topps and they still didn't send me it after my BBB complaint. Hopefully Topps will finally get their heads out if their @#*# and send me my redemption but I'm not thinking it will happen till sometime next year. So ridiculous!

I have also filed a BBB complaint with Topps and have got a continued run around. My BBB administrator seems slow to forward messages on and Topps has taken a hard line. At this point, I have no reason to believe I am ever going to get my card.

To play devil's advocate, why?

People (including many of those filing BBB cases) continue to buy their products despite knowing full well how bad the redemption problems are.

Remember, Topps is currently owned by a private equity fund. If the redemption problems aren't causing a drop in sales, they have absolutely no financial incentive to fix the problem.

I'm still confident I will be getting my card it's just a matter of when I'm not taking any replacements so I will just keep waiting till it comes.

There's also a lot of Griffey cards from 2013 Tier one like the one I am waiting for that have patches so can't see none of them being made but it's always possible but I think unlikely.

I don't anymore, I just bash them in every public forum that I can.

I need the $1500 i have tied up, so I had to give up my 2 year battle of waiting them out.

Yeah that's a lot of money so don't blame you for not continuing to wait. I have over $500 on my Griffey redemption so not happy at all how long it has been taking to get the card but thankfully I don't need that $500 right now.

Agreed, I have not purchased a Topps product since I filed my BBB complaint when Topps screwed me over.

Is there any way to check on the status of a redemption? When I sign in it has an area underneath that says My Redemptions or something like that but there is nothing in that area nor is there any link to go to find them; really strange but then again it's Topps

Remy responded to my inquiry about replacements in record time! Funny how that works.

Me:"Greetings,
I'm still greatly confused why the card is live on eBay, but not available to fulfill my redemption. Were the rest of the cards given away as replacements prior to submitting the redemption? In the event that you are not able to fulfill the redemption, I would consider a replacement. What other Cal Ripken cards are available as replacement options? Thank you"

Remy: "The card you found on ebay is not the redemption card on your account. There are two different variation/ print run for the 2013 Five Star Retired and Active Autograph Rainbow Parallel of Cal Ripken Jr..

I will submit your request for a value of the 2013 Five Star Retired and Active Autograph Rainbow Parallel of Cal Ripken Jr.. card. Once I receive a value I will contact you with replacement offers."

Uhhh...hmmm......NO! There is only Rainbow parallel according to your checklist, Topps, and its the card that's on eBay

Unquestionably the supposed second variation will be valued at $3.50. Please tell me I'm wrong and that I should expect to receive the Patch Autograph Rainbow parallel. :special:

Looking for advice again. Topps offered my card as a replacement to another collector, but can't locate it for me. $300 replacement value. Should I take it?

Tell the Topps reps to bring the Cal card to the National and have him sign it on site. I mean they are going to be in the same exact building and are every year.

As said above. If you are buying topps cards then you play by their rules.

Maybe so, but that's not the way that it's supposed to be. There are few industries that can get away with things like that with consumers. If the industry was more profitable there would be more attention on it, but it's a dying hobby and industry. Topps is just trying to squeeze every last dime.

This hobby has never been policed. Ever read the back of a pack? They have themselves covered. Do you tell a druggie he might die if he snorts more snow?

Just admit that 80% of pack buyers are addicts and move on.

Topps can do whatever they want....who is going to challenge that?

Not me. I got tired of waiting around for Redemptions for months only to get subpar items poorly packed I'm not busting any new boxes at all. I might rip open a pack here and there but my buying has been limited to only singles I need for the PC until some good baseball products come out without redemptions.

They settled up the last 2 Kris Bryants they owed me, we are square, and I haven't bought a new box of Topps cards since.
