Default Counterfeit auto?

I saw this 1998 Topps Stadium Club co-signer card which showed up on eBay recently.

Does anyone notice anything odd/different about it?

Where is the Topps Authntic Auto logo? Back then the Certified Auto Issue, I meant to say.

You spotted it lecreccio. I emailed the guy asking if he noticed it was missing. We'll see if he takes it down.

There is a seller on ebay who has been selling blank co-signer cards for the past year or more. I guess someone is trying to make some money off of them. I'm surprised they did it with this card instead of one of the Jeter co-signers, but that missing logo would probably have been noticed more readily on the more expensive cards.

Wow. I'm not familiar with the set or card, but if you hadn't posted this, I would've had no idea. I found a pic of a real auto from that product with the stamp, and figured it would be good for the thread. It's crazy that they would counterfeit this card, and not a higher end one. Not that either should be done, but you'd think they would want more in return for their idiotic risk.

I also noticed that the fraud is signed in a different direction.

John

Default Ebay listed Salmon/Clark

I'd like to see the back of the card that this seller has listed. When I sell cards on ebay I always show the front and back of the card. The back in some Topps cases has the sticker. I recall getting a 2007 Topps Chrome redemption that Topp's did not affix the sticker to the card, which was on the back in that set. Just for memories sake whenI contacted Topps about the missing authenticity sticker they refused to honor the redemption, go figure. The ebay listing makes me think of Sylvester the Cat's son Junior shaking his head "oh fathur the thsame of it". I just noticed that on the card posted above my post Salmon's signature of his last name does not reflect the letter a in his last name. He makes the S and goes straight into the letter L out of the S. The fake card has an obvious a inserted into Salmon's last name.

Okay now I've sent him a request for a pic of the back of the card to be posted to the gallery or messaged to me.

I primarily collect Stadium Club autos and I've never seen one without the authenticity sticker. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but the coincidence of the blank co-signer cards showing up about a year ago seems pretty damning. I'll give the seller of this one the benefit of the doubt since he has a lot of reviews and is at 100%. I ran into a similar case a year or two ago (with a 2000 or 2001 co-signer card) and when I contacted the seller he told me he picked up the auto at a card show and he promptly removed it.

The seller did the right thing and removed the listing for the (probably) fake co-signer card. She said she got the card in a collection she recently bought.

She did the right thing. Thankfully you caught it and notified her in time. It wouldn't have sold high, I assume, but nobody wants that headache.

Nicely done!

Counterfeiting a higher end one would draw more attention. However, the card may have been faked back when these 2 were in higher demand. Too many variables but regardless, it's wrong.
