Correct. The cards we (artists) sign are cards we purchased from Topps just like everyone else, that count towards the PR. We don't get any extra cards from Topps outside of the PR.

Twins Jake is one of the biggest sellers (if not the biggest) of Topps on Demand product and yes he stated he is losing money on these at $17 per. That being said he also hit the Gold framed Trout/Ermsy and sold it for 4.5k so he is coming out ahead.

Serious question but what kind of business license would give you an exemption from sales tax for an online website like Topps? Where would you enter this exemption on the checkout page?

Topps doesn't work out side deals to give out additional discounts for platinums or individual sellers.

For anyone else getting this, I just spoke to Topps. They said that the Project 2020 cards have been so popular that the "bots" have been out of control. They are banning IP addresses right and left trying to get them all. For some reason my IP address was mistakenly banned. I have not even bought any of these. He said the IT department will have it unblocked soon.

oh my! I had that same error yesterday. I was just trying to buy that bling Trout, just 1 of them, lol. I ain't no bot! I was able to finally purchase around 9pm California time. I was blocked for like 4 hours.

In California, you need a resale certificate to purchase items without paying sales tax. Every state is different.

I don't know how Topps works specifically maybe Topps has the resale certificate on file and everything is exempt from sales tax for your account. That seems to be how it is done on Ebay.

I assume the other option for resellers is to pay the sales tax now and settle up with the state tax authorities quarterly or whenever sales tax is collected. The reseller is already collecting sales tax so the extra he paid Topps would need to be offset/credited.

They are for sure cards he is buying through the project and selling, on his website it says it is a pre-sale item and it will take 4-6 weeks for the cards to arrive to him before he can sign them and ship out orders

I guess in Topps efforts to control bots they have impacted others from accessing their website. I have tried to call Topps but the call is not going through. I have also emailed but guess I will have to email again.

I stand corrected; did Twins Jake mention how much he loses on each card?

I have a registered LLC and a 'reseller license' for the state of Arizona, and simply file that license along with a form 5000A to get tax exemption. I've put this in place with multiple online/offline companies and auction houses. I don't pay sales tax on ebay either. All cards I purchase are done through my business except for my 'coffin cards'.

Totally agree. The format of a 4*3 card is so limiting when you want to display or share this artwork. I haven't bought any for this reason. Why can't we get some of these as prints or mini-posters to frame etc? Heck, I'd buy a jigsaw of them before I bought a card and stuck it in a box or folder.

For resale, a bad thing in all likelihood, the Thiele is holding onto $25-30 atm but I feel like it won't go much higher if at all, just too many available. This will probably be similar

Australia has been blocked on Topps.com since April 21st, they are aware of this and I have been in constant communication with them about it. It's their number one priority right now to fix and hopefully it'll be fixed soon. I reached out to a handful of friends and family across the country and nobody can visit the site.
