I don’t know about that. Trout will be the face of the league as long as he stays consistent, which he has. Tatis needs a few more productive seasons under his belt before we get that far into the conversation....

Trout has failed to become the face of the league (and he actively doesn’t want to be it)...

For a couple years now, MLB has been trying to find anyone that will take that mantle on, and resonate w/fans in and outside the sport.

I wouldn’t say he’s failed to become it by any means. He just needs a better team around him. Judge is more the face of baseball over anyone else at this point. If Tatis keeps this level of play up, he’ll be the face eventually....

Trouts failure is self induced and won’t be fixed by team and playoff performance... he has been unable to get brand sponsorships, and folks like Nike have dead ended their lines with him... he likes to remain private and has rejected appeals by MLB to have a more public presence

And in his defense, he doesn’t need to be one if he doesn’t want to be a superstar. He’s paid oodles of $$ anyway, and doesn’t need to play to the publicity and fans if he doesn’t want to.

To your point, I personally know people who are sports fans (mostly hockey) that haven't even heard lf Mike Trout.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read on this board. And that is no light statement.

We really need to differentiate between celebrity and superstar. Mike Trout is, without question, a superstar. He's not a celebrity (which I happen to really appreciate).

But make no mistake. Mike Trout is a superstar.

Celebrity is what makes a superstar. There is no other criteria.

Thus why players like Jeter, KGJ, and Ortiz remain the largest brands, even if they pale in comparison to Trout on the field.

If Tatis has a career like Manny Machado he would be in great company.

The bars are set way to high on these young guys.
Nobody is Trout.

Has anybody seen Kris Bryant play lately? He pretty much stinks.

Ortiz never has and never will be in that company.

The MLB doesn't want the face of baseball to be white anymore. They want to attract more African Americans to the game. I challenge somene to change my mind.

Remember these are entertainers... stars are those who draw the crowd through their celebrity.

Yet he remains along with Jeter the biggest celebrity and brand in MLB. KGJ has declined in current popular relevance.
