Ughhh I really don't want to know. I used to own one but wasn't happy with the condition so sold it, never got around to buying another.

Topps chrome psa 10 Without a doubt
Best RC and you can find some that are not green (unlike 96/97)

Besides the obvious options like Topps and Topps Chrome, I actually think his Fleer Metal RCs are a great buy and they are undervalued, IMO. They have a sweet design too.

I'm a fan of the BP8 refractor. You could get a GEM for less than your budget. I have a original(hand pulled I mean) copy. One of my favorites. Has a pretty good scratch on it but still a beautiful card.

Also can't go wrong with a TC 10 and have a grand or more leftover.

gonna go against the grain and say metal universe is a great card to get with the most room to grow imo.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. This is a tough call. The safe play is the TC PSA 10, but I am learning that rarity seems to matter a lot to me, even at the expense of iconic. Plus, the more I learn, the more I find really nice Duncan short printed inserts.

I'm actually shocked by the lack of love for the Jambalaya - that would be my pick 10 times out of 10. Its an iconic set and the first year they were made and even if it wasn't Duncans RC year it would still be iconic and worth owning long term. The fact that it isn't a "true rc" is easily offset by the aura of the set and the rarity of them especially the 1997 ones.

One of my favorite cards in my collection is my 2004 Iverson Jambalaya - I want to pick up a few of the 1997 ones really badly - it almost doesn't even matter the player to me.

I agree. The more I have thought about it, the more I think this would be the one card I would buy, if it comes up for sale. I may be able to get a PSA 8 in the price range, but who knows given the market.

Bummer, such a great card. Looking at comps, it is $$$ but not quite as $$$ as I was imagining. To me, at the right price, that is a safe pick-up when it comes to Duncan.

Bowman Atomic Refractors are freaking beautiful and super low pop (as mentioned). Very affordable at that, I think they will stand the test of time.

It won't be an easy card to find at all and yeah who knows what it will go for in this market once one does come up but if you can get your hands on one I recommend it.

Maybe just a bit over your max budget, personally I like his Topps Draft redemption. Low pop, extremely hard to get high grades due to the foil, and just a pretty card.

I am so appreciative of everyone's comments. This thread shows how kind people in the hobby are, and also the challenge of finding one great card of a player, since I have went back and forth on a handful of cards based on your recommendations (so many great options). Still no decision, but I plan to make a choice soon.

1997 Topps Chrome are the most iconic Duncan rookie card to buy, but there are many cool insert rookies worth collecting as well. I personally like 1997 Star Power Supreme which are very nice designed cards.

I have a PSA 10 that hasn’t greened expect to pay a big premium for it. We’re seeing this with Kobe chromes big money in non-hulking copies.

I went back and forth between the TC and Jambalaya. I used to have the Jambalaya and I would pick that as it's one of the most stunning cards I've seen.

Its not his rookie but the 1998 skybox autographics is a good choice as well with a real nice early auto of TD.

1997 Jambalaya is truly one of the most beautiful cards of all time, but its price could also be magnificent.

I have the base Kobe and refractor that have no greening. They exist thus the huge premium for them.
