There's a 2018 Panini Ohtani 1/1 Double Patch Auto in the current Goldin auction. Very interested to see how high can go. With Goldin getting the eyes of all the high end basketball/football buyers, that card can go way higher than expected since that crowd likely doesn't know or care how disliked Panini is in the baseball world nor that an "RPA" card isn't a thing in baseball.

I think most basketball collectors understand panini isn't popular or licensed in baseball. There is clearly a reason you can buy NT RPA's of ohtani for under $500 (i paid $280), when a similar card for a basketball star would be 20k+.

That being said I would guess that auction ends around 10k

In addition to the lack of license, the Flawless and NT cards in baseball have player used patches and not game worn patches, which also contributes to the lower demand and prices. There is a difference between player worn and game worn patches. Player used can be a patch from a jersey worn for few seconds in a non-game event such as a photoshoot.

In football- Yes, both NT and Flawless do not have game worn patches but they are licensed products.
In basketball- Flawless patches are usually game worn and even some NT are game worn

And even game-worn doesn't necessarily mean from the regular season. There was Joey Votto a "game-used" Dynasty patch just recently sold on EBay that has a spring training logo on the patch:

It says Game-Used right there on the front. I understand that gives them cover to use spring training jerseys, but I think most people assume that they were using actual(regular season) game jerseys

To be fair, I’ve never seen the “hit” in a hobby box of flagship as the driving factor. If I want the “hits” I’ll go after a box of Triple Threads, Tier 1, or Museum Collection.

The draw of flagship is the rookies and parallels, the hits are just a bonus.

Like if I was buying 2018 Series 2 or Update, I’m not hoping for an Ohtani relic, I’m hoping for a parallel of #700 or #US1.

Oh I get it - I'm a parallel hunter too. I would rather have an extra rainbow foil or gold then have that card. In fact my stack of relics from Flagship has gotten pretty high at 31 It's getting absurd.
