Yes..2019 are his first official rookie cards. Prospect cards arent considered rookie cards

Hey Good Vibes, welcome to the board!

So each player has "prospect cards" from when they're drafted until they make their MLB debut. Back in 2006, MLB made a rule that a player couldn't appear in a MLB licensed base set unless they had already played in a MLB game.

To get around this, Bowman (and Bowman Chrome, Bowman's Best, Bowman Draft, etc) create cards for the prospects that are considered "inserts," even though they have the exact same design as the base set.

Once a player appears in a MLB game, it's game on. So there's a huge market for a player's 1st Bowman Chrome Auto card (prospect card) and then an entirely separate, and popular, market for their RC cards once they appear in MLB.

While this is true for most if not all players there are a few caveats:
-Some folks (like me) only collect/deal in MLB RC cards, and ignore prospect cards altogether
- When a prospect is traded and earns MLB notoriety on a different team than the original prospect cards have him pictured they lose some appeal to some people.

They certainly won’t drop, but it would certainly be a nice cherry on top (and a little added price bump) to go with the MVP award. I think his prices are going to be climbing for a while as long as he stays on the field.

I’m not advocating selling. Just that price movements don’t usually do what you might expect, even when the event is unexpected. Giannis Prizm is already cheaper than before he won the Finals, and continues to trend down.

There is truth to this. I think Giannis is a FANTASTIC buy to hold for the long run, but if there is a big sell off the higher print run stuff like his base Prizm usually takes a hit because the market gets flooded.

For Tatis, I wouldn’t be scooping a bunch of 410’s, I would focus on autos and more scarce RC’s. I do think some postseason coverage with commentators gushing over his ability every game will do nothing but help his prices long term though. The hobby just needs to see him healthy and on the field. His talent is undeniable.

Yeah, I see tons of 410s and base Chromes everywhere. People used to ask for the base Chromes at my LCS when I had a hard time keeping them on the shelf, now everyone seems to be asking for the less popular RCs like BC/SC and even the more niche ones like Living Set.

As a Padres fan, I am pretty worried about their playoff chances. Rotation isn't healthy and has been inconsistent all year, but I think this team has another big winning streak in them to get them going strong into the playoffs.
