I'm still collecting the same cheap cards that I have been, while looking out for deals on the nicer stuff that I usually just ogle.

I do track sales and auctions for a couple of cards that I've pulled. An auction for one of the nicer cards I track sold for a 70% discount to it's prior comp a few days ago =(. Not my sale, but was definitely expecting it to go for significantly more.

Not as bad, but not keeping up with inflation. You are still losing money if you have it in vintage. Just not as fast.

I'm talking about those $50-500. range cards - perhaps mostly modern, Lebron/early Curry/Giannis/Mike Trout/2nd tier RC's with smattering of serial numbered type stuff.

Are y'all selling now before the sky falls more? Are you going to simply hold with long term in mind? Are you going to be buying the dip? Are you changing buying habits ('cause we're all junkies and can't stop buying) to vintage? Or going more cheaper raw purchases over already graded?

This year I have mostly been accumulating nice for the grade PSA Nolan Ryan, occasional graded Curry & raw Star Wars, fwiw.
People forget because they have these discussions in a vacuum (BO forums), that this is a good part of the hobby out there. It is why we are where we are today. They have moved on which was always going to be the bubble popping right? Like eventually who will be the final owner of Acuna US250 PSA 10 or 9s for that matter. Eventually every 'Joe American' has 1 or 2 in his collection and he moves onto the next hobby that catches their eye.

I will only give you my response, and my approach is different than many on here. I am selling and have been for the past year and a half. Did I leave some money on the table in 2020? Sure, did I still make a profit? Totally.

I am different because at the end of the day these are just pieces of cardboard with pictures of sports players on them. They have no intrinsic value, and can bottom out just as quick as they came. You don't have to look to far past what happened in the 90s/2000s to see this can all go down to damn near zero. Could it bounce back? sure anything could, but I am not going to walk away from a profit today for the chance of a bigger profit years down the road. That's just how I do things. Some people say I am just impatient and they are probably not wrong, but I would rather cash out and buy more land.

Again I just view things differently, but you can tell the scared people on this board trying to lie to themselves about value and where the market is, it is kind of sad to see. Maybe when BTC gets below $5k I will head over there and try some of that.

I am not buying anything until it hits the floor cards wise, and if I do I am selling it no longer than 5-6 months out and lock in that profit.

He's playing the Tigers tonight.

Oh, I'm sorry. That's the guy who thinks he's the new Jackie Robinson.

What difference does that make? Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Ted Williams don't "play next" either. They are multi-generational legends.

Your response makes absolutely no sense and it's just snobbish.

He said he can’t get into collecting players he didn’t grow up watching.

The snobbish reply was the one he replied to. You’re just one post off there. As if there is only one way to collect and enjoy cards.

What are opinions on the upcoming National? I've noticed some dealers on social media spending like crazy to stock up for it.

To sell for 110% of the comps? Is that even worth it?

I meant if the trout card goes back to $500, it will have actually dropped more in price than when you paid $500 back in 2019.

Be careful of vintage ending prices. Vintage cards don’t sell every second like equities and crypto so if there is a real significant drop in other equities there may be a lag time in that vintage sale which may happen every two-three months, ie, by the time you realize that vintage prices have dropped it will be too late to move them at what you thought they were worth.

agreed, buy because you want the card(s), not to resell

Yeah, what I mostly care about is access to cards. Sounds more like everyone is expecting it to rain cards.

If you are holding a bunch of inventory that you are already up on, you can always sell on the way down to pocket some of the gains. Just like any other asset in a market.

In 2014 I won a 1988 Topps 3 box rack case for under $4 before shipping. Maybe I’ll get a chance to top that.

If you not watched that movie, I would advise it. A lot of similarities to the card market

Agree. The biggest/fastest way for Fanatics to make back some of that money they wasted by buying in when they did...will be thru breakers/wax/etc. Wax prices wont change that much, any time soon. Unfortunately, its what the hobby needs but what the hobby needs vs what its evil empire requires...are 2 completely different things.

Blowout just brought back their discount codes on purchases of $500 or more.

Demand is higher than ever, nothing to see here.

Yup, every time I see those Backyard Breaks idiots I think of those two mortgage brokers in Florida from the movie

Covid plus his passing is not a good combo for collectors. It may not drop for a while.

Meanwhile people are paying stupid money and slabbing BCAs of kids who haven’t suited up in the majors. I get that prices are inflated for the Trout Update and all, but looking at some of these card sales for prospects makes me scratch my head.
