That was easily my fav part of the IDW book, Joe’s commentary on the pieces. I mean the art was awesome, but I’ve already seen it (well most of it, not the unreleased paintings and sketches). The commentary was such a nice touch, for example which ones he picked among his ‘top 5’’s in the set. I learned that Legion and Iceman were at the bottom of the list. And things like where the background of the Spider-Man Holofoil came from. It was a fun read.

Agreed. Was really looking forward to this by late April. Maybe it's all the bronze variants or the custom slip cases.

Well per the update from FPG, not only will it not be the end of May, but they are saying mid-summer now, whenever that is. Supply chain issues.

The perpetual pushback is getting somewhat tiresome.

This was in today's email:

"As collectors ourselves, we strive to make this fun for everyone that participated in the Kickstarter campaign. To that end, we will be including randomly inserted one-of-a-kind metal and bronze cards for our backers….ALL the backers, at ALL the reward levels!
There will be about 150 of them in all, so one in ten backers will randomly receive one!"

Good luck, fellas...

I’m also not getting the emails, probably because I didn’t want to get spam from Kickstarter. If the randomly inserted cards are just a fun bonus, that’s fine I guess. If they’re supposed to make up for the delays it’s not so great. Everyone is impacted by the delays but only random lucky backers will get an extra card?

From a set collector point of view, not being a lucky backer who receives one of these cards could be frustrating. That said, I hate to criticize something extra being offered.

In case you're not getting the emails, they are posting these as Update messages on the Kickstarter page for the book.

In some ways Im not surprised, as supply chain issues have been an ongoing thing for them, including the fiasco of getting the original arts framed (which was eventually discarded entirely in favor of the custom slipcase).

Eagerly awaiting this book, I admit Im a little frustrated with the delays. I guess it's better they get everything right and take their time, but still...I have to think many people backing this and paying as far back as Dec 1, are going to start wondering where the book is.

The extra goodies they are adding are nice...hopefully it doesnt become too complicated...Im already seeing like 8 different 1/1 colored bronze, multiple other characters than the Spiderman, true-card colored bronze, and possibly this new variation, unless Im reading that wrong. I cant be upset with more goodies though

I think that's a pretty typical experience with Kickstarter releases. It's an unconventional method of funding projects.

I don't know why there are still supply chain issues with printed material 3 years after the initial disruptions. There could still be a backlog of orders for printing companies.

Either way, I'm sure I'll enjoy the release when I finally get it.

I mean, the cards this book is showcasing are now over 30 years old.
What's a couple of extra months?

FPG now saying 50 different 1/1 Hulk metal card variants possible...each a different tint of color. That's a lot of colors.

I dunno…green might look ok on the Hulk, no matter the shade.

Id welcome any of them because they are 1/1s (but again, since there are 50 of them…are they really 1/1s? It’s like the old printing plate dilemma jacked to a whole new level)

I got the latest update email today.

I will say, every time FPG updates, the date seems to be pushed back.

Originally April-May.....then late may...then by summer....then July-Aug....now July-September.

Im taking even the September date with a grain of salt now. Have to say this is disappointing.

Half a million dollars and almost as many delays. Oh well. It’ll arrive when it arrives. Still not sure how I feel about the randomly inserted bonus cards. I’d much rather that money went toward finishing the book and getting it shipped out.

Yea they keep sugar coating the delays with a bazillion limited color bronze cards as extras, which is cool and all….but some people just want to get the book in hand at this point.

Harder to forget about it when invested over 2k in the original art tier. Delays happen, but probably shouldnt announce a timeframe to keep pushing it back then. It’s like UD and releasing sets. Instead of constantly giving an updated release date, be honest and say its unknown because delays.

The cards are neat...but lets face it most of us aren't going to get one, so big deal?

I have very little interest in the card inserts, personally. I'm just excited to see the books.

If I'm being honest, I don't care about the delays. What matters most is they make the books high quality and error free. This release will presumably be the final chapter in Joe Jusko's MM history, so it's important to get it right.

Make the books worth the wait -- don't just try to meet a deadline.

I would agree, while its disappointing that it keeps being delayed I just hope it is worth the wait, high quality and worthy of displaying the art. A few months delay is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I prefer to look at it like we'll all get one, and that's true until some (ok, most) of us open our package.
Hope yours is as pretty as mine!

This post probably going to hold up well. Very latest response from FPG, could push back into October.

I am skeptical the book will be shipped this year. Again it's not the delay itself as much, although it would be nice to finally get the book in hand, but the fact a date is continually being announced then pushed back. It was April-May.....then late may...then by summer....then July-Aug....then July-September...then September...now probably into October. They keep blaming supply chain issues, which I was under the impression have been much more back to regular since the pandemic.

FPG seems like a great company and all and it's awesome they did this project with Jusko and MM. But this project has been somewhat disappointing so far at least for me. First was the bizarre responses from FPG on kickstarter about drunk driving that turned out to be they got hacked,, then the issues with backers of the original art trading/sell before shipment and the problems that caused, then the delays in framing, then the discarding of the frame entirely for the original art even though it was advertised in the campaign, and now the delays with the book month after month, even though a date keeps being announced, because they are saying supply chain issues. Here is verbatim from the Kickstarter page for this book under Risks and Challenges under FAQs:

Quote:
Further, this book will be printed in the USA, thusly eliminating any Covid-related shipping delays.
