Remember when the Browns got a 5th for Josh Dobbs?

That was awesome

Finally! The 49ers have crapped the bed and hopefully now the Cowboys will allow Trey Lance to be the elite QB that he has the talent to be.

I live a couple miles down the street from where he played one of the greatest freshman seasons of D1 college football for a quarterback in modern history. The next step is for him to dominate the NFL the way he dominated college football and I have no doubt that he will.

I wish he was traded to an AFC team, but I was actually a Cowboys fan as a kid in the late 90s so I'm looking forward to rooting for them again when he inevitably takes over as the starter.

No, its not. I realized that it smells like copypasta as I read it back to myself, but posted it anyway. I don't care. I'm that excited about watching Trey Lance in the NFL. If you weren't watching his career at NDSU then you really have no idea.

I am not seeing much in Lance that he becomes this great QB. But if he ever does in the next 2-3 years Kyle and John are never going to get to live this down.

Everyone is calling it a fresh start, but he has gone from being QB3 in San Fran to being QB3 in Dallas. Barring 2 serious injuries to Prescott/Rush, he won't be seeing anything but mop up duty.

Maybe we will get that chance sometime in 2025.

Let us not thump our chests too loudly over his career at an FCS school. How many future NFLers do you suppose he faced in his college career? A dozen?

He dominated a season of FCS. He’s got talent, but I never thought he was anywhere close to a sure thing.

Rush I won't be shocked if Dallas trades him now. It's not like Rush has a future as a starting QB.

I'd argue without a SB win in the next 2 yrs they will be unhireable. Regardless of how Lance works out.

Dolphins used it for +Waddle, Hill, Chubb, Tindall.

People are funny.

Is it ideal to trade all that draft capital for Lance? No

But consider this:

2019 Super Bowl Appearance
2021 NFCCG Appearance
2022 NFCCG Appearance

They have Purdy, a guy they like. They have Darnold, who they also like. The roster is stacked and with Jimmy G - a guy everyone here hated, they've been more successful than 90% of the teams in the NFL.

Next Years draft?

Round 1
Round 2
Round 3
Round 3 (Compensatory)
Round 3 (Compensatory)
Round 4
Round 4 (via Dallas)
Round 5 (Compensatory)
Round 5 (Compensatory)
Round 6
Round 6 (Compensatory)
Round 7

Purdy on rookie deal.

Not sure how this sets the Niners back, at all. If anything they are coming out ahead.

I agree he has no future as a starting QB, but he was a darn decent backup last year. IMHO he is their #2 guy when healthy.

Let's not lose our heads here. They got nothing from Lance so they essentially traded 3 1st rounders for a 4th rounder. That is a disaster of historic proportions.

They absolutely have done very well building a championship contending team. Just imagine how great they'd be if they held onto all their draft picks. The 3 guys drafted in what would have been SF's slots are Micah Parsons (DROY, 2 time All Pro 1st team), Cole Strange (started every game as a rookie) and Bryan Bresee.

It sets them back because turning three 1sts into one 4th is a loss.

Scoreboard, though.

Armchair GM-ing aside, they're fine.

One of those picks they traded away for nothing was Micah Parsons.

You’re too smart to honestly claim that the forfeited picks were irrelevant.

What if Purdy regress to the mean? Which he will

He wasn’t drafted for a reason by 31 teams

Niners fans are so arrogant. It’s wild

He’s the next Brady

You guys are psychopaths

And I like you. Haha

Everything you said is true. Except Purdy is the next Tom Brady.

Micah who? The guy Jauan Jennings pancaked?

Joking aside, they couldn't afford him. I know that's lame to say, but the Niners would have had to let him walk anyway.
