Yes, but his numbers were down last year. Plus this kid has a lot of pitches already on his arm. You think youth sports is bad in the US, what was the anecdote in the espn article, 500 pitches in 8 days!

Money isn't (shouldn't...) be an issue for any team interested in signing him. If he had waited until 2026, then he'd be a pure international free agent and be able to sign a market-base contract like Yamamoto did

With that said, the Dodgers are the clear favorite landing spot. I can't be too mad about it, they just do so many things incredibly well in terms of player development and simply the amenities and how they take care of their players off the field. Their model is something that every single team in the league should be envious of and trying to mimic. It obviously helps when you can throw $300M at your payroll, but that's not a factor here with Sasaki

It's not 300m, it's over 400m with luxury tax payments. Truth is mlb prob needs more tiers to luxury tax as you're going to have mets and dodgers well over 400m and yankees at 350-400m unless hal has enough boats.

It would be an incredible upset if any team other than the Dodgers signed him. Rich getting richer.
This is wrong. Dodgers have the least amount of money along with the Giants.

Doesn’t matter though…. If he wanted the money he would wait 2 years and get 300 mil. He will sign with the dodgers for 5 mil.

From the article:

Quote:
It's unclear yet when Sasaki will be posted, starting the 45-day clock for him to sign with a major league club. The 2024 international signing period ends Dec. 15 and the 2025 period opens Jan. 15.

Most teams committed most or all of their bonus pool to Latin American prospects in January. The Los Angeles Dodgers have kept the most available space left in their 2024 signing bonus pool, $2,502,500.

Baltimore has $2,147,300 remaining, the New York Yankees $1,487,200 and San Francisco $1,247,500. The other teams have under $1 million, including Tampa Bay and Texas with no money available and eight other clubs with less than $100,000.

The last day to post a player is Dec. 15, so by waiting the Marines could extend his availability into the new signing period.
So it depends on whether they post him soon, i.e., in the 2024 period, or wait to post in the 2025 period. If they post him in 2024, then the writings on the wall. If they wait until 2025, then the Dodgers' chances might fall from 100% to maybe 95%.

Apparently because if his age he'll have to sign a minor league deal capped at $6 million so shouldn't be a problem for the Dodgers.

But how many Japanese pitchers are breaking down like pitchers here? Maybe Nolan Ryan was on to something when he said pitchers today should be throwing more not less.

Even the single boxes at $150 are gone now.

Another site is offering to buy them for $125. Quick flip if you bought them at $100 a couple days ago.

Cheapest on the bay is $175 DLVD.

Yeah there is clearly no legitimate answer right now, it's all theory. I remember when "starting late" ie being a positional player / hitter well into high school was being touted as "the answer" but it's since been clearly disproven.

I think strain and an individual's biomechanics play a much larger role, but is obviously a very difficult thing to answer. So I don't think throwing a lot as a youth is necessarily a bad thing, as you may be training up the joints/ligaments to be able to withstand more strain. As in any discipline that is physical or a workout, constant training is pretty key as long as you give the body rest, which to me moreso is about adequate sleep and having "lighter days" than refraining from training altogether. Modern exercise science seems to agree with this.

300M, 400M, it's all the same to a point where you can sign whoever you want and not have to worry about much else. I'm not sure that's good for the league, but all's I'm saying is they definitely have a massive advantage by being able to do that, but they are also elite at player development and going so far above and beyond to take care of their players too

Darvish had a better career in NPB then Sasaki. I think Darvish would be #1 or #2 on almost any MLB staff now so if he is the next Darvish that would be a good outcome

Guy is moving some boxes at ~$180 per (a few bucks for shipping label).

Timing couldn't have been any better for those $1200 TC NPB cases lol.

I believe Yamamoto won the MVP and equivalent to Cy Young three years in a row and Sasaki hasn't won any

The 2021 Topps NPB (non-chrome) is a good buy. Way more likely to hit any particular player out of a single box with 2021 NPB paper. Plenty of color.
