The Yankees just come fast and furious at us in this set. Nothing wrong with Joltin' Joe though.

Yankee #50 will be next.

I'm leaning towards Whitey Ford or Bill Dickey. Both are in the top 10 of bWAR for the franchise, 7th and 9th respectively, and both numbers are retired (Ford #16 and Dickey #8).

Love the Joe D., but I hope they correct the hometown. He may have been born in Martinez but he famously grew up in San Francisco.

From what I can tell, Topps uses Baseball Reference to verify the bio text for each card.

Two things. One, love the DiMaggio. One of the biggest players missing from the set. Is that the same green background as the Gehrig card?

The other thing is about the NFL and NBA licenses going to Topps in the next year. I would love Living sets for the other sports. Does anyone think it might happen?

I think that is the same background as the Gehrig card, especially since Jared is the artist for both.

I would also like to see Living Sets for the NFL and NBA. I imagine they would be big money makers, at least initially, like MLB was. The early print runs are through the roof, especially for the top players, and I would expect the same for the other two leagues.

What is that patch on his shoulder, looks like the NFL shield?

Check out this Uni-Watch article on the "Health" patches worn in 1942.

Hale, Hearty, and Full of Unresolved Questions

The patch makes it easy to identify the season this photo was taken, which was also the last season DiMaggio played prior to his military service for the next three years, prior to returning to MLB in 1946.

They have the WWE license and for whatever reason have yet to restart the WWE Living Set line ... not a good sign.

That's a good point.

I haven't looked at the print runs for the initial run of the WWE Living Set, but I wonder if that had anything to do with Topps pausing/canceling the set.

I assume MLB, and NFL or NBA for that matter, have larger fanbases than WWE with a greater focus on card collecting.

Finally ! I was waiting for Joe Dimaggio. Great artwork by Jared as well. Thank You Topps. One of my personal favorite selections for the set.

Apologies if this has already been answered but do we know how the choice of team logo is made for each card?

The Yankees currently have 3 different ones (hat on bat, white interlocking NY on blue, blue interlocking NY on white) and there isn't a clear pattern as to which players get which logo.

Thank you for sharing the reference photos.

I appreciate Jared taking some creative license with the DiMaggio background to tie it in with his Gehrig portrait.

Perhaps it was just because he knew what the background of the dugout is colored correctly and there may not exist any color photos of what Joe is sitting in front of (a baseball stitched curtain of some kind in the locker room?)

Also, when I looked them up, it appears a catcher's mitt is suspended above or falling onto Joe in the photo? So perhaps he thought if he was going to remove that oddity, he might as well make the background a little more authentic?

I imagine that's where he was going with his choice.

The catcher's mitt is interesting, but the curtain on the left side of the photo has me perplexed. I'd love to know what it actually is.

A golden opportunity to get another Royal representative wasted...Even though he has the same number of seasons with both teams his games played and WAR are higher with the Mets so guessing that played into it (as well as the more obvious of they just love representing New York). He did play for the Yankees so at least we didn't get our 3rd Yankee of the month!!

I’m guessing no more Jean Segura cards w/ announcement of retirement today. Unless, of course, he gets 1 more for getting in HoF

I mean, what he’s most remembered for as a Met is the worst strikeout in club history and getting fired as manager before the ink was even dry on his contract. This is just torturing those fans; better to show him as the fresh faced Rookie of the Year that we all loved when he was a Royal.
