Under no circumstances do you trade your best player for 4 nickels on the dollar, and blame it on his unwillingness to move positions (twice) after getting blindsided by the team upon reporting to ST. This was clearly a salary dump that the team is parading around as “he wasn’t being a team player.” By all accounts he was a great teammate and produced incredibly during a very difficult season in which he completely lost trust in management for treating him like a scrub.

FSG just signed a new player to Liverpool THREE DAYS AGO and has to pay his old team $135million. That’s not a coincidence.

This group has a track record of deteriorating relationships with its star players and running the organization and treating the players like the owners of the 1910s.

If we thought they were going to have a hard time signing free agents after the Mookie debacle, it’s going to be ten times as bad now.

This has been one of the most poorly run franchises of the last 6 years, and frankly I’m disgusted at how the last 6 months have played out.

I could actually forgive them if they got even ONE half decent player in return, but they got basically nothing, just like the Mookie trade.

At least get the giants top prospect.

Well....the Green Monster does weird things to hitters numbers. My guess would be that they're projecting that a lot of Devers opposite field doink shots that are doubles off the Monster at Fenway will actually become opposite field home runs at Oracle.

And Oracle is actually better in straight away RF than Fenway is.....

Was never going to happen unless the Red Sox agreed to cover part of his salary.

That's the way trades work these days....if you want a top prospect back, then you have to cover salary.

And it looks like FSG preferred to have SF take over his entire contract and settle for Kyle Harrison, rather than send SF some $$$ and get Bryce Eldredge back in the trade.

Which makes no sense to me. This isn't the Pirates, it's the Red Sox.

They got the Giants #2 back in the deal no? And wasn't Harrison like a top 25 prospect last year?

Guess what? Someone else will be their new leading HR/RBI hitter going forward. And maybe that guy won't be such a turd in the clubhouse.

All these top prospects are coming up, and the team's "leader" refuses to do what's best to win, trashes the front office in the media, *and* actually gets mad at one of those rooks for volunteering to do a job said leader refused to do? Keep telling us everything was fine in the clubhouse.

Seems like management realized that they have another Manny Machado on their hands: a bad influence on a big contract. So they pulled the eject lever while the deal still had some value. If I were a Red Sox fan, I'd be really happy about that. It looks bad right now, but it's almost certainly going to end badly for SF at some point.

But I'm a Packers fan who was a big Brett Favre fan back in the day, but was happy to see Favre go when he started acting bigger than the team. No player is bigger than the team.

Tibbs is now the Red Sox's number 6, and will be 4 soon once Mayer and Anthony graduate

Home run by Roman Anthony.

Dry your eyes, folks! Someone's still gonna hit dingers for the Red Sox. The team was around for a little while before Raffy showed up, and they'll survive without him.

He's not going to get $40m anywhere else next year if he's hurt all season. He'll be the starting 3B for the Sox next year. And have a better 2026 season than Devers.

I honestly really hope these young guys rake and make Red Sox fans forget about this whole affair asap. Maybe not forget, but move on to better things. It has been ugly for sure.

I do think there's a chance Bregman sticks around, if he looks at this like they chose him over Devers.

Yeah, the Prince Fielder comp is soooo tired and soooo lazy. He’s one dude, one example—not the standard barer for all players with waist lines bigger than Chris Sale’s.

Plus, Prince is quite possibly the thickest player to ever play the game, a nose tackle swinging a bat. So trying to compare linebacker-sized guys to him is pretty silly.

I do love the talking heads propping up Devers by saying he has the most HRs of any homegrown Red Sox player through his age 28 season. While factually true they also fail to mention how Ted Williams lost 3 seasons due to military service…but first base is too hard for poor Raffy lol.

Default Giants Acquire Rafael Devers

For those concerned about how Devers’ production will be affected by playing in San Francisco, here’s a spray chart of his balls in play, going back to 2021, overlayed Oracle Park, with exit velocities above 85 mph and launch angles of at least 14 degrees.

A few caveats: the first graphic accounts for all such contacts, home and away, while the second one shows just home games; Oracle’s right field wall is the highest in the league on that side of the field; and San Francisco weather is considerably cooler than Boston’s in the summer.

All that said, Devers does not hit cheapies. So, I don’t see him struggling too much in his new home stadium. He’ll lose some homers to right-center, while some of his Green Monster doubles could now be round-trippers, and his pulled shots could turn some outs into homers and some homers into doubles. But again, he doesn’t hit cheapies, so we should see plenty of splash hits from him.

Devers has had 48.5% of his career PA at Fenway Park.

Devers has hit 57.1% of his career doubles at Fenway Park.

Fenway is by far the most hitter friendly park for LH hitters to hit a double.

Communication matters.....if the Red Sox had discussed the possibility of him playing some first base BEFORE signing Bregman, I'm sure he would have responded differently.

$300m should be enough communication for you to be a good teammate. He was angry at Kristian Campbell for offering to play 1B when he wouldn't because he's an entitled baby. I'm sure the Giants will get a couple good seasons out of him and it cost them almost nothing other than paying his contract, so good for them. Until they ask him to do anything he doesn't want to do.

Agreed. The Mickey Mouse Operation that is currently the Red Sox front office literally could not have handled this more poorly. Breslow can’t evaluate talent, and he certainly can’t communicate with players. Shame on them. It’s too bad they didn’t learn anything from their predecessors after the Mookie charade.
