Ohtani on the base paths to start it and he eventually came all the way around. At least Conforto didn't hit into a DP, so Shohei can rest a bit.

I remember when Kershaw used to bat, and when he was on the base paths for any amount of time, especially on hot day like today, he usually wasn't the same pitcher when he got back on the hill.

If Freeland can get on here, Shohei bats again in this inning.

Just as well, Lodolo gets that 6th K to end the inning, but not before 5 singles and an intentional walk plated 4 runs for LA.

Inning #5 should be Ohtani's last. Two more strikeouts would be great to get to 10.
Hopefully he holds the lead (and the bullpen does, too), so he can finally get his first win as a Dodger pitcher.

Man that game felt closer than the scoreboard indicates. Good to be the first to sweep the Reds all season! Ohtani's first W as a Dodger, and 2 up on the Padres!

All right. Caught San Diego, caught Chicago, caught Philly.
6 back of Milwaukee for best in NL.
Difficult, but not impossible...

28 games to go and 16 of them are inter division (7 x SF, 6 x AZ, and 3 x CO), which should give us a big advantage down the stretch.

Seeing these performances out of the starting staff gives me lots of optimism. Also seeing Treinen, Yates, and Scott throw ok as well. We need Vesia back for the playoffs. With Graterol out it would be nice if Kopech could come back. His stuff is so wicked when he is on. He is supposed to come back this weekend.

Hyeseong Kim also ready. His defense and speed will come in handy in the playoffs and Muncy returning next week. I hope he is healthy. He is such a beast when he is well.

Do you want to see Walker Buehler back with the Dodgers? Maybe in the bullpen?

Absolutely.
However, in his current state, he might not make the postseason roster anyway...

How Do the Dodgers get shutout by the snakes?
Still two up on Padres
Dodgers cannot swing for the fences all the time
Dodgers have some work to do
Go Dodgers!

Hopefully, a better effort from the hitters follows last night's goose egg and Glasnow and do a Gallen.
Snell was OK and the bullpen remained solid.

That's still only the 7th time LA's been shut out this year which is very good to this point, although they also had another 12 games where they scored just 1 run, and lost all but one of those.

This team is playing like they're going to be swept out of the first round of the playoffs...

They had that hot start that put them in a great position to begin the year, but are basically a .500 club since then. This is a team that lost all 6 games to Milwaukee, sure, but also all 6 games versus the Angels, lest anyone forget. Their head-to-head success against the Padres is the only reason they're still in 1st place. Winning every other game the rest of the way may be enough for them to limp into the playoffs, but we'll see...

This team was s very consistent at being inconsistent. You don’t know what you’re getting from game to game. The only thing we know is that they either all hit or nobody hits, at least it seems like that.

They need that middle of the lineup power guy. Last year it was Teoscar. This year it was will smith, but he has gone colder than cold. Muncy for a while too and I think when he is back and healthy that will do. He may need a few games back.

Luckily, the Padres aren't any better. The difference for them this year is that they owned the Giants, winning the season series, 10-3. They're also 5-1 against the Rockies and play them 7 more times, so they could actually finish even better against Colorado than they did versus San Francisco. If they can win 6 more against the Rockies to finish 11-2, those two dominating season series might be enough to make up their shortcomings versus the Dodgers and give the Padres the division title.

SD is down 6-0 thru six innings, so maybe they lose today, and give LA yet another mulligan.

Yoshinobu today, versus Brandon Pfaadt for Arizona, who pitched well against LA twice earlier this year.
Pfaadt, with his 5.24 ERA, actually has a better record, 12-8, than Yamamoto, who is only 11-8, despite a 2.9 ERA.

Yamamoto: 7ip, 4 hits, 1 run, 10 strikeouts.
Currently #10 MLB in ERA.
Well done, Yoshi...

Unfortunately, Arizona gets to bat, too.
Scott got two quick outs, then gave up a couple of singles before a 3-run shot from Corbin Carroll to tie it up late.
Sorry, Yamamoto, no win today.

Maybe Will Smith is over the hump with that one and will go back to hitting like he did in the first half. Big win today, for sure...
