First Buzz: 2025-26 Topps NBA basketball cards

Question:

So won a free hobby box I pulled one of the tickets on the Topps NBA Collect digital card app. 1:6,000 odds.. 3rd pack.. pretty unreal.. (I know.. lucky me)..

Does this come with one of those silver packs? If not, how do I get the silver packs? I have not bought a hobby box of anything since 2016, so I’m like way out of the loop on this stuff.

Congrats! I think Hobby comes with 1 Silver and Jumbos come with 2.

Btw, I saw some of the Topps NBA Collect stuff. Do you think they're going to release some of the sets in physical form?

It's a pretty ingenious way to test potential sets before deciding what to send to the printer.

In my experience with the Topps bunt app, The mlb equivalent, there are a lot of sets that are digital exclusive. But I would expect some of this stuff to be previewing future physical sets. Like the 1952 Topps cards on the app. I feel like they’ll release a box of that at some point. Kind of like a Topps heritage baseball type release.

This stuff is selling like hot cakes on the secondary market tho. I’m not at all surprised bc the baseball stuff has been going strong for over a decade. Some of this early stuff on the app could be worth a ton in the future.

I tried two Megas of this. Nothing. Other than Flagg base rookies the only SP card I got was a Danny Wolf Generation Now foil. For $100 for the 2 it may have been the single worst value I’ve ever had opening retail. No numbered, no mem. Just diluted junk. I knew better

They are and I bought a case of them

On the bright side, my 3-year old daughter loves ripping the boxes (opening the compartments that hold the packs as well as the packs themselves) so I can bust out a box every so often.

Would've definitely preferred to buy 4-5 x 16-box blaster cases of 2019 Star Wars (animated series) for the cost of the advent calendar case though. She loved those boxes.

Has interest and demand crashed now that chrome is out?

In my area it seems all the Black Friday Topps boxes are finally sold out. Those were fun boxes. Lots of Megas and Blasters on the shelf. I still open the hangers because of the Diamante inserts. The Costco retail seems to be finally dwindling at the locals stores.

Hobby Boxes seems to slow down, but prices are still holding. I think the Silver Packs give some value to those boxes. If Chrome goes even higher, these might get picked up as the cheap alternative.

Compared to the Chrome cost, paper is fun to casually collect, try and hit a low # parallel something. Granted all the paper rcs are close to nothing.

Id rather open NBA paper or chrome, then Topps chrome BB update (any format).

Judging by Demin singles that I buy and quick glance at box prices, I think it's more stabilized. If anything, Demin singles have gone up.

I think there's a clear market dislocation between this and chrome though. Either chrome is WAY too high and needs to come down or this stuff is really underpriced. In baseball there's a pretty clear hierarchy of products and topps chrome is always ahead of series 1/paper products in general

The draw of series 1 is some specific cards like golden mirrors and the black parallel but in general people much prefer the chrome cards

This product is a little harder to predict because of the real one autographs but in the end I still think the chromes will end up higher

Chrome should be higher, that's not a question. Right now though, it's out of whack higher. The paper product is a much better value. That being said, it's no different than people pumping chrome hangers as the best SKU. Yeah it's the best RELATIVE value vs. the other SKUs, doesn't change the fact that it's still garbage value

To me the All Kings insert in this dominates anything put out in Chrome, it's not even close. Chrome is all flat, boring designs with multiple images of the player on it. No etching, nothing.

That's awful news and unnecessary by Topps/Fanatics. There will be a chrome update then too I'm sure. For what purpose? Nobody knows, not like there are midseason rookie callups missing like in baseball

Luka amongst others. Plus, they may include the rookie debut patches in chrome update.

Please, be prepared for topps basketball up the ying yang for the next 12 months.
