Was just coming in to ask how people were faring now that the Olympics started. I gotta say I'm having fun watching the players I got autos of. Tessa has done well in hockey, Evan Bates performed great in team dance, and Breezy Johnson got a gold. Feel like I did a lot better than I initially thought!

If she didn't feel she was 100%, it was definitely selfish of her to try to compete and not let someone else have her spot.

Well it wasn’t her leg that caused the problem, her arm got caught in the gate.

Wasn't she one of the medal favorites for the downhill and Super-G even after the ACL injury? I don't think they gave her a spot just so she could say she participated.

Also, Chole Kim didn't get the 3-peat. Bummer.

Yeah, Vonn still had the 3rd fastest training run, so she definitely was in a position to have a competitive performance in the final even if not 100%. Since she could still ski competitive times, Vonn earned the right to make that decision.

Can you imagine saying something like this about an injured QB in the Super Bowl? If they aren't 100% then they should let the backup play?

Yeah, it is crazy that people are making these comments.

Especially given her current and prior injuries had nothing to do with the crash. Lindsey has even said it, her line was 5 inches too far inside, her arm caught the gate and once it turned her she was along for the ride at that point. As someone who is here in Milan with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee as well as some of the individual teams, I have heard quite a bit about it - she earned the spot, it was her call.

Team USA is not performing up to expectations. Our faces of the game: Kim, Shiffrin, Ilia, and Chock/Bates (controversial) have not performed up to expectations. Shiffrin still has a chance to recover, but ultimately it is looking like only Stolz and hopefully both our hockey teams can be the stars of the games.

I am fortunate enough to be headed to the rest of the USA Hockey games for both men's and women's though the gold medal games.

Ilia succumbed to pressure and choked. Unfortunate. Basically the same as Nathan Chen a few Olympics ago. Chen overcame that hurdle so hopefully Ilia can in 4 years but I’m sure he’ll be full of regret until then. Wonder if Chen didn’t focus on school, would he have won another gold?

Really cool. What's your role with the USO&PC?

Kim performed well that first run but I thought she should have saved it for later (if you can do such a thing as a snowboarder). The field basically had 2 runs knowing what the number was to chase. Cool that she mentored Choi. Snowboarding seems like one of those sports where the competitors are pretty tight with each other.

Ilia couldn't handle it. Even Simone didn't win gold every time and had mental obstacles to overcome. He seemed humbled by it and hopefully he'll be back in 2030.

I don't think Nathan Chen had the passion and drive to come back. That's another 4 years of tireless work on and off the ice. He said he basically did everything he wanted to do in ice skating. Good for him. Now he can be a doctor. What a model asian kid.

I bought a blaster box at Target today and I'm not impressed at all with how the cards look. I honestly feel Topps/Fanatics took a step in the wrong direction. I specifically don't care for the metallic silver curved line on the front of the cards. I'm really glad I didn't buy a full box or even a case of them this year. The 2024 set was a grand slam, this one is barely a bunt single.

We’re Trustees of the USOPF (Foundation) and just enjoy attending the Olympics. We generally average 30-35 events at the Summer Games and a few less at the Winter Games each edition.

We met Ilia tonight. He was gracious and in good spirits. I think he’s on record saying he could not handle the thoughts that washed over him as he started. We did not talk to him about that (of course) but in general he was in good spirits so hope for a Chen-like redemption in 2030. Also ran into Scott Hamilton, Brian Boitano, Chock/Bates and AJ Miezcko tonight. AJ who is announcing for NBC is not only a legend but very humble and we chatted with her and her family for the better part of 2 hours.

That 1998 team is legendary, just like our 1999 Women’s World Cup team.

I believe they have the license with the USOPC which means they have the rights to anything that is in Olympic competition.

it was annoying that the hockey cards are airbrushed in this set.

Yes, I think it is since the NHL has not competed in the Olympics since 2014, they only images they had required airbrushing since they were not in Olympic competitions.

I think the cards were photoshopped because Topps doesn't have the NHL License, Upper Deck does.

We agree, but slightly different. When NHL players play in the Olympics they are under the USOPC license, not the NHL license. So, the fact that these players have not played in an Olympics means whatever we have has to be airbrushed because Upper Deck has the NHL license.

However, if in 2030 several of the players who played in the Olympics this year (2026) then images from the Olympics could be on the cards in the USA jerseys without airbrushing.

I’m ashamed to say I didn’t know who Mike Eruzione was. Now knowing super sick auto, captain and winning goal of the “Miracle On Ice”
