We want to see Konnor Griffin on the Opening Day roster - it's as simple as that

I went to college in Pittsburgh and my sister had season tickets during my time there and I actually worked for the Pirates for a short time, but I have zero faith in management.

I hope he make the opening day roster too.

That is very cool! What was your job with them?

I started on the cleaning team first, (this was in the summer/fall of 1993) came into the game in the 7th, was able to watch, then when the game was over used backpack leaf blowers to blow the trash down the stands and giant vacuums on the field would suck it up. Super physical work.

Then I worked in the ticket office but had to quit as my college grades were suffering.

Love the Bucs and always hold a special place for them in my heart after the Red Sox. I really loved those 90's Pirates teams.

I'm pretty sure that still took a couple MVP's to get there too.

Right - his first bowman isn’t a Bowman 1st

I bought a 1st Bowman, but only because it was a mislabeled refractor being sold as a base card.

I’ll go ahead on this…so, I started following him a bit in July, my buddy is a big Pirates fan and was hyping him up to me. The numbers were great, I loved the power/speed combo. Then, he got the bump up a level and did just as good…everything I was seeing and reading pointed to his stock rising. Then I read about the maturity and how he carried himself. Historically, I bought a lot of wax. But even those of us that bought cases in the past eventually do decide the price is too high. I decided in September I was going to buy singles of this kid. Did I overpay at the time? Yes. But I really thought highly of him. I checked on here daily to see if people were talking about him and they weren’t. That silence told me that many on here probably were buying (keeping things quiet)…so, I went ahead and grabbed some stuff I liked. My “stash”, and what I paid:

I’m a sucker for inscriptions, and thought this was cool. Paid 699 plus tax/fees, came to $752:

This was limited to 49 copies, loved the look, paid 499 plus shipping/tax, came to $540..I still need to grade it:

I’m quite sure I still overpaid on this one..the peanuts refractors. Liked the look and I know they are super rare. 899 plus tax and ship, came to $946. Will grade it eventually but it does have a print line:

There were a few psa 10 base autos on eBay at the time, picked the one I thought had the best auto…I think it was $819, came out to $880 with tax and shipping:

Wanted something more than just a base, I’ve always liked blue waves. Total with tax and shipping was $2283:

Loved the 2025 image of him running, so I got a true blue psa 10. Was $499, came out to $534:

Then, from the “it worked out in the end “ file: I had a Transcendent Ronald Acuna “Transcendent Seasons” redemption. I saw the thread on here talking about the 200% return on redemption replacements, so I got in a Topps chat with them and decided to take a replacement on the Acuna. My HUGE mistake was not stating what my expected value was on the Acuna. This card should be numbered to 5 or less, and will include game used pieces from Acuna’s 40/70 games. I was chatting with the guy about a possible Ohtani auto as a replacement, as I figured the Acuna would be about $1500, so 200% would be $3000 or so. But—I did not state my $$ expectation. So…the card below showed up in the mail, value at the time (December) was about $550. Topps is convinced my Acuna was $250 and that 200% was $500…I tried to send the card below back or get something added to it, but Topps dismissed me…anyway, it’s a true gold, and looks gradeable, so in the end, I might have gotten the $2500-3000 card I was asking for..true gold:

So, I’m sitting on these and will be along for the ride!—Matt

Good for you Matt and the redemption gold looks great. From what I read Griffin sounds like a good kid, I’ll be rooting for him except when he plays the Marlins or Mariners.

That is a fantastic story! And, to finally know how they clean stadiums after a game is done. I thought it was a bunch of people going row by row and picking up the trash. While no doubt physical, at least you could get large areas cleaned faster.

Yeah, the 90's Pirates were rad! Unfortunately, you would have started there the year after Francisco 'f***ing' Cabrera has his GW hit and Bonds' sh*t throw to try and get Bream. The start of the true downfall of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The only time I've ever almost cried because of a loss. I was epically angry

Oh, and "LET'S GO KONNOR!" to keep it on track

It seems like the Pirates have this kid sitting out every single televised game.

His paper 1sts are selling for around 15 right now, that’s crazy.

It's YOUR fault and you should assume all blame

Come to think of it the Pirates last World Series wasn't long before I was born. Maybe I'm the cause of it all.
