Harper is just the 7th major league player 22 or younger to hit 40 home runs.

I think it finally just hit me today that he's still so young and clearly one of the best in the game. That achievement is astounding.

There is no chance anyone other than Harper is winning the NL MVP now. He pretty much solidified it by hitting 40 HR. An achievement only 6 other players in history have accomplished at his age.

It depends how many take into account the teams record, Last person to win MVP on a non playoff team was A-Rod wasn't it? With Texas?

2008 Pujols
.357 avg .462 OBP 37 HR 116 RBI 100 R 1.114 OPS 192 OPS+ 9.2 WAR

2015 Harper
.338 avg .467 OBP 40 HR 92 RBI 109 R 1.137 OPS 204 OPS+ 9.8 WAR

Very comparable numbers as well. Harper has a better OPS+ & WAR with more HR & runs scored. Only significant stat Pujols led in is batting average. Keep in mind Pujols was 28 in 2008 & Harper is just 22.

If Harper doesn't win the voters have erred. He has had, far and away, the best offensive season in the majors, let alone the NL.

That Pujols season looks monstrous... can't believe Harper is outdoing it in OPS.

Really puts it in perspective IMO

A historic year IMO for a 22 year old...

Just amazing....

All I can think about now is the bar he has set...

This place will implode if he gets hurt or hits .285 with 25 hrs next year

It's been a privilege for us to see this. With his newfound injury-avoiding ways... can only get better.

thats the best part for me...seeing him hopefully do it again! ive always liked Harper way more than Trout....

if harper going forward is a .320+ hitting 40hr obp/slg/ops monster like he has done this year i wonder how trout fans are going to deal with that...cuz this year from Harper in my opinion crushes anything trout did in any of his years...if he does it again next year that will be fun to watch!!

hope its all legit for the coming years!

Rizzo hit #30 on a playoff contender but hey, Let's give it to a guy whose team is barely .500. Just kidding before people get all moody, Rizzo will/should be in the top 2 no matter which way the vote goes.

It's fun watching where Harper's season is falling historically. Here's his fantasy baseball note today:

Here's the list of players that led their league in all three triple slash statistics at age 22, like Harper's doing: Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, and Stan Musial. Here are three players that never had an OPS in their career higher than Harper's current 1.144: Hank Aaron, Joe DiMaggio, and Willie Mays.

Worthless stat.

You just named three guys who didn't walk. Those three guys had 60 something seasons among them, and only one season where any of them walked more than 87 times (Willie Mays late in his career).

Harper has 115 this year and counting...because he has ZERO protection. His walks are a big part of his OBP which leads to his high OPS.

You are honestly saying, passively aggressively like usual that Harper shouldnt get it.

It doesnt matter who is in 2nd place, because they arent getting an 1st place votes, or at least they shouldnt since Harper is MILES ahead of everyone else.

Rizzo, Goldschmit, McCutchen all wonderful and such and 2 of them will be in the playoffs, but none of them are anywhere close to as valuable as Harper has been this year.

Yeah, you're right. Walks are stupid.

Unreal season. Just unreal. .34x average? Who the hell saw this coming this year. Pretty much nobody, not even Harper homers. I think we all expected improvement, but not this much of a single season jump.

His cards are still surprisingly low compared to Trout, but that's to be expected. It took Trout another full year of consistent mvp-type stats for him to truly gain the trust of the hobby community and his prices to reach the next stratosphere. If Harper can continue this next year, I think things will get ridiculous.

He's not even in the top 2 for first baseman, but thanks for playing.
