They really do.

I’ve made my thoughts known on TS and was wrong. I want it to succeed more than anything and disrupt the hobby.

We get nothing innovative from the card cartel because of the exclusive licensing and no competition. Well Panini now you better innovate in the physical space because you’re getting SMOKED right now s. If the competition comes from the digital marketplace that’s only a good thing for physical card guys like myself.
Geech, do you really think Panini/Topps are scared? They are still gonna sell out at MSRP. They can still run their Dutch auctions and get great prices. I don't think they are gonna be hurting much.

The distributors, retailers and especially group breakers? They are gonna take the hit short term. That's where the flipper money is gonna go. Their margins are gonna go down significantly.

I know breakers can move to pack breaks but while they do so, Panini can start slowing down production and adjust. I think they'll have more than enough time to adapt and there won't be a need to panic right now.

I haven't seen one person state that they've put in tens of thousands of dollars here. Most that are sharing have stated they've put in $10-$100. A few like myself put in $2k. However, all of them are in the black now. So there is nothing to lose but Monopoly money.

As for members that are getting in now.... just like cardboard, buy the Moments you want to collect (player, team, etc) and that are reasonably priced...also wait for pack drops.
You don't think the underlined, bolded, and italic'd part is worrisome? Everyone wins? Think again.

This isn't a bad thing for the hobby. Bring it back in line, this isn't a Zion or a Luka draft class...not even close!

I don't wanna sound cocky but I don't think you'll find anyone in here getting burned. I think it's gonna be people getting into these down the line who are outside of BO.

And I agree with you about moments. Once everything cool down, I'll try to own a few Bulls ones.

I see that low one and another just under $3k.Likely has to do with having funds for the limited edition pack drop coming.

The big difference is you don't know what part of the timeline we are in. In most successful businesses, the earlier people got in the better they are off. Look at bitcoin. So many people got "burned" in Dec 2017/Jan 2018 because bitcoin peaked around 19K. Then dropped in the next year/2 years to 6-8K. So you'd say they got burned. BUT bitcoin is now over 57K. So technically if you got in at the 2017 peak, you've still 3X'ed your money.

It's impossible to know what part of the timeline we are in

superstars S2 /15000
Giannis
Curry
Durant
Zion
Ja

they all were selling between $15-25 last week.
i was looking for the Biggest "gaps" from s1 an s2 .

my thinking is those players were getting too expensive S1's. So the new members can afford the S2. Same like the legendary for me. was WAY to expensive for me, so i went next lever (like 2nd year Jordan, etc)

Good luck.

Put $1k in on January 15th. Bought the Series 1 LeBron Kobe Dunk /1000 and played around with the extra 100 which led to packs and flipping. My "market value" is getting uncomfortably high and I TRULY don't know what to do hahahaha

...but I am LOVING the ride!!

EDIT: but of course still holding onto the LeBron for dear life

All fair points. I don’t know if they’re scared necessarily but they definitely should be. If TopShot really takes hold it’s going to suck money out of the hobby.

These card companies, right or wrong, have essentially been money printing machines as they cater to the flippers and flippers move product for them. Flippers boost singles, flippers hoard wax, flippers are the reason Panini went Dutch with FOTL in the first place.

If those flippers pull their dollars because they realize the money comes way faster on TS (it does) and the returns are far greater (they are) then the physical companies would have ceded the greatest bull run in hobby history to gifs.

I still remember 2013/14/15. The hobby was in real trouble because no box would sell at MSRP, let alone above it. Those years were Panini’s greatest in terms of innovation because they had to innovate and create to try to get something to stick, and nothing really did.

A month ago I thought TS would crash and burn. They’ve proven the concept over the past month. Not only is there a market for the gifs, the market is far greater than the secondary market on eBay. Roughly 300% bigger than the BEST day on eBay, which is absurd.

Will it hold? Who knows. We’ve been signaling warnings on the current hobby for years now that if the flip money moved on to the next fad we’d see a hobby haircut. It’s looking like TS, and really any/all NFTs, are set up to be the next money making fad. We won’t know for a year, but right now if I was betting on TS disrupting the market I’d lay my entire stock portfolio on it.

Be very careful with the 2nd challenge moments. Those moments will crash big time when the challenge ends and I really don't think the AD value will make up for it.

The only way to complete the master challenge (only people who would possibly be buying 2nd challenge items after the challenge ends) is to own the 1st challenge items as well. There are 3,500 of the Luka Cool Cat in existence. This means 3,500 is the most that can possibly complete the master challenge. There will be way more supply than demand for the 2nd challenge moments after the challenge ends.

I have made a lot of moves. Sold off a ton of my excess moments on the smaller end, and landed a Giannis /7500 for 365

I see this ebay vs. TS comparison a lot this past week - and while true I do think it's important that we remind ourselves of the qualifier that on ebay, a card is only sold once in a day. If I sell a 2012 AD Prizm PSA 10 for 1k that's all that card can generate for the day. On TS, the equivalent moment can be sold many times during a day. I'd be interested to see what the daily TS sales volume not including resales is vs. the ebay daily sales.

Not saying this is a bad thing for TS, in fact quite the opposite, it's the benefit of the platform and the beauty behind their business model. But I think we just need to remember when we're comparing to ebay sales we're not talking apples to apples
