Default Flawless Erroneous Patches

Is this correct that Panini’s highest end product uses player-worn rather than game-used materials, AND the jerseys don’t even correspond to the appropriate player?? There is no K in Mahomes...

Believe it is from Rookie or Kansas City during the Rookie Photo Shoot for him.

Looks like the "K" from Rookie. You can make out the O next to it.

Does anyone know if this "player worn" trend is going to be in basketball too? I can somewhat understand in football, with only 16 regular season games, it's harder to acquire game used uniforms. But with 82 games in NBA, it should be doable to put game used into the high end products. Right?

Would have to be from Rookie not Kansas City since there is a letter in front of the K.

How can anyone guarantee that any of the game worn stuff is even legit? I've seen some guys match up a card to a photo from a game. A Tom Brady game worn card doesn't say game worn by Tom Brady. They use interesting wording on the card.

"The enclosed game-used material and autograph are guaranteed by Panini America Inc"

I mean it can be game used by some scrub and signed by someone else like Luka's hot azz mom

Well, at least that does make sense. I see, so it’s from ROOKIE.

Rookie stuff has been player worn for a long time now. Panini does a lot better job getting game worn materials for retired basketball players though. I made a thread about Flawless patch provenance here:

Do you really think Panini is going to put pieces of $2000-$20,000 game used jerseys into a $1500 per box product? Nope.....they wont waste the money when they sell out every year putting in $150 store bought jerseys

Weird nonetheless because Mahomes isn’t a rookie in 2018 so they probably used left over patches for this cardset.

Kind of what I was thinking. To be fair to the OP, he seems new, so he may not be as aware.

Yep, I'm a huge devin Hester collector, and just saw that his first player worn product starts here in flawless, guessing now all other products after this will be player worn of him. I noticed in all other player cards that usually from 2014 and earlier are going for much more now

I get the player worn material for Rookie Cards, but as the OP said... Mahomes ISNT A ROOKIE!!!

That is just pure garbage in his second year of Flawless.

The bigger players used to change jerseys at halftime for football. The companies can make hundreds of swatches out of a single jersey, so it wouldn’t be too hard to have game used. Your fellow collectors keep buying the photo shoot junk and the companies have no motivation to change.

That should be the least of your worries when dealing with Panini and a pricey product like Flawless.....which isn't flawless.

Using leftover rookie photo shoot jerseys in later years in veterans is annoying on low-end sets. It's even worse on high-end sets.
But going and getting store jerseys for long-time vets (e.g., Gerald McCoy) or retired players to put on for a high-end set is unacceptable.
Vote with your wallet. Don't buy these "store patch" cards as singles. If there's an auto and "store patch", pay what you would for the auto with no swatch, or skip it altogether.

I was looking through some older sets and one of my Favre patches has a picture of the jersey on the back and the date from which it was used (which was actually the 9/11 makeup game between the Packers and Giants in 2002).

And then I looked at a few Immaculate patches. Player-worn on almost all of them. If you can't go back to what you were doing before, the it's time to end the practice.

The old Donruss Fabrics of the Game sets were great about showing pics of materials used.

In 2007 I had a screenprinted "game used" Doak walker card. (07 nt base parralel)

People in the hobby let me know it was impossible for it to be game used... I sent it in to panini explaining the conundrum. They sent it back with a letter of authenticity. Lol.

Been happening for a long time is the point of this Post.
