Arrow Heritage Auctions Selling Trimmed SGC 8 1933 Sport Kings Ruth, Previously an SGC 4

EDIT 4/1/21: Card is now live at Heritage. I didn't receive any response to my message indicating that the card has been trimmed. (Note: This is not the same trimmed SGC 8 Sport Kings Ruth that was pulled from a recent REA auction. That copy is here: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1425669)

Auction link: https://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball/1...umbnail-071515

Card isn't on the market, but I just happened to see it while going through sales due to the distinctive mark on the back. Nice jump from a 4 to an 8 thanks to the cleaning and trimming. Last sale of the untrimmed card I can find was by Heritage on October 24, 2012 for $4,182.50. The first trimmed sale I can find was by Love of the Game on November 2, 2014 for $14,400.00.

Nice find. Minor recoloring on Ruth's cheeks as well?

I was going to go with minor recoloring on the black nameplate.

Yes. Both cheeks and name plate show signs of recoloring.

Jeez, this is getting stupid. That's some seriously pro work with the time and effort...heck for the ones altering and the detective work to find it.

Many of these alterations would be fairly obvious with the card in hand. Why then, do TPGs so miserably fail? This shouldn't be rocket science for an experienced grader. There are other considerations in play here.

Interestingly, Al from Love of the Game (first documented sale of this trimmed Ruth) came out with a very strong anti-trimming statement in June 2019:
https://lotgauctions.blog/2019/06/05...game-auctions/

He said "[W]e are grateful to those hobbyists who discovered the magnitude of the problem and brought it to light. It is our hope that those responsible are prosecuted."

Hopefully Al or someone from LOTG will reveal the name of the consignor so more information about who trimmed this card can come to light.

Nice find 3124508 on COMC! Great presentation on the before/after trimming.

SGC knows the submitter.

LOTG knows the consigner and buyer.

The real shame with these cards is that if/when they are found to be trimmed, a big proportion of them are going to be either effectively or literally taken out of circulation. Which is a shame as there are so few of them left.

Jeebus on THREE sides! That's ambitious even for these turds.

I would think it would be obvious under magnification that one edge of that card is significantly different than the other 3. A freshly-cut edge compared to a 90-year-old edge should be an easy spot, and it's a must for a high-dollar card like this. It's either gross incompetence (bad) or corruption (even worse). One or the other.

Gee the fellas at SGC might want to retake that course in identifying alterations on Sport Kings.

If the card wasn't owned by an employee at SGC then I'd put them in the same category as Beckett. Incompetent.

Honestly at this point is there really any difference between PSA, SGC and Beckett? Only thing that makes PSA king is the registry. SGC and PSA absolutely know how to grade and id alterations but they both seem to fail miserably at the one thing they are paid to do and 999 times out of 1000 it has nothing to do with human error or the alteration being so awesome that they missed it.

The new PWCC is selling this in their upcoming auction. The list of obviously altered cards grows. Buyer beware.

Heritage is a well-financed company with some good people at the top. Really surprised they would intentionally and knowingly resort to selling so many altered cards. Why don't some of the ex-TPG graders there say or do something? You're right. They're entering into the realm of PWCC infamy.

Looks like the recolored Jackie has been pulled but this one is still set to go live next week, so to the top it goes.

What makes you say that? Auction still appears active to me, though I’m not logged in.

Your link on your Net54 thread is bad. You copied the text from here as opposed to the actual URL and since BO uses ellipses to shorten links, it’s not the right URL.
