Caleb Williams: The Next Mahomes?

I realize he had an awful 3-interception performance tonight against Notre Dame, but he's still going to go #1 overall and be anointed the next generational QB.

Considering Mahomes' Red Raiders only went 13-19 with Patty at the helm and only made it into the top 10 of his respective draft class by the skin of his teeth, can we say that—for where he's at—Williams is ahead of Mahomes?

Williams is a better college QB than Mahomes was, but that doesn't even remotely mean it will translate into the NFL. Tim Tebow was a far better college QB than either of 'em, look at his NFL career.

The problem for Caleb is that he is a USC QB. There has not been a lot of success for USC QB's in the NFL.

Matt Barkley 4th round
Mark Sanchez 1st round

Carson Palmer 1st round
Rob Johnson 4th round
Todd Marinovich 1st round
Rodney Peete 6th round

Some colleges simply do not offer good transitions to the NFL for QB's. Notre Dame is probably the worst offender since 1980.

Wait, I'm confused. ND had 2 - 1st rounders, 2 - 2nd rounders and 2 - 4th rounders and they are the worst offenders since 1980?

Just above you posted 5 - 1st round busts for USC, all within your 1980 criteria. Most are way more recent.....

And I think most teams fail to produce good NFL QBs. Williams had no chance last night but I still think he's an incredibly dangerous player. He has a really strong arm and can make some ridiculous throws. He rarely relies on running unless he has to.

I think his odds have to be as high as any QB in the last 2-3 years to make the transition and become a starter. Not sure about transcendent, possible.

Drake Maye is an interesting prospect with good numbers but I haven't watched any of his games this year. There are a lot of people pushing him so might be worth a flyer as a collector.
