Default Fake GAI slabs

I've already shared in the baseball thread, but figured Vintage would likely be another good outlet. Maybe someone knows who purchased the card?

Good article that recaps the recent sale, but here's the original thread that also highlights the counterfeit PSA slabs that appear to be linked to the same seller.

Default Thank You

Thank you for posting this and doing the research. I never thought I would see someone bother faking a GAI slab but very well explained.

Looks like the card is real. The GAI slab may have been fake because according to the video, it was loose in the slab, but PSA cracked it out it graded a PSA 5.5. If sold, that would sell for well more than he paid for it. So, luckily for him, it was a good purchase.

Same card (BVG 7)? Mentioned in the vid it was once a bvg 7 but not confirmed.

Yeah, really surprising update. Someone reached out yesterday morning, talking about counterfeits and communication with the FBI and then the grade popped in the evening.
Crazy story, but sounds like the buyer is happy. This is about as good as it gets, if you buy a counterfeit slab.

That does appear to be the source. Based on the other thread and the apparent connection to this seller, even with hundreds of deactivated certs (including another t206 Cobb) they still appeared to have psa grading privileges. Why go to the effort of faking a GAI slab, if the card would pass authentication? Maybe the seller couldn't get it authenticated?

Just bizarre altogether. The buyer didn't think to look for the Authenticity Guarantee checkbox before bidding? Or did it have it despite being listed as a GAI slab?

Only PSA, SGC, CGC, and BGS slabs are checked. If it is an old GAI or newer slabs like TAG, HGA, or GMA there is no guarantee.

Took much longer than I thought, but at least one buyer has noticed the slabs are bogus. As eBay/PSA haven't done much of anything to stop the seller (still occasionally mixing in fake/resealed PSA slabs), maybe the feedback will at least warn a few bidders/buyers.
