Then Januarys new highs of 730K, there will be about a total of ten sales for 57 that will conclude by march 6, over 500k, that is only about 3% of the float...

This says a lot about the type of collectors that are holding onto this card...obviously they don't need the money and believe the card will be going higher...this is also another logical angle to look at things....
Absolutely, very well said!!

2017: 5 ($18.3K)
2018: 3 ($19K)
2019: 4 ($23.1K)
2020: 2 ($39.8K)
2021: 6 ($544,938K)

I know more sales will be coming, but this is just up to this point.

The first 2 months in 2021 have seen the same number of sales as 2019 and 2020 combined. Doesn't mean people aren't holding and not cashing in, but more people are cashing in than have before this early in the year.

There were 19 total sales in 2019 and 28 total sales in 2020. Will be interesting to see how many 2021 has.
I can also see your points too! Hmm, I guess no one knows what's going to happen, but I would have thought there would be more collectors selling their PSA 10's because of the extremely high dollar sales, but only time will tell us.

There is more cards being sold that go on behind the scenes in private sales. I am looking to move a high end card myself and I think I am going to go the private sale method, while using a big name as a middle man broker.

When u say a big name do you mean an auction house? And why would this be any different then auctioning the card off unless you are getting paid in cash?

I'm more of a skeptic than most. When I see Timberland flexing his #57 on IG that he bought from Goldin, and Timberland is also investing in Goldin with The Chernin Group it raises my skepticism/cynicism.

As always, I reserve the right to be completely incorrect.

You hit the nail on the head here. Why anyone needs to shill their own auctions (if they did it) or have sales for Mantle cards where they don’t get paid makes no legitimate sense. No conflict of interest with a record sale way above the norm by a guy who stands to gain personally by promoting a record sale. Card sells for way above the mean and gets all sorts of pub - just like the Trout did, and the impact it has on the lower grades and other Jordan cards temporarily causes them to skyrocket and then plummet. People around the seller who have been advised to buy up inventory the last 3-6 months make a ton of cash when they sell based on the manipulation.

Don’t get me wrong there is a bunch of new money and buyers in the hobby, and in speaking to several collecting friends who are big time dealers and AH’s they are seeing new bidders and buyers. More demand and more $$ means higher prices. Benefits those who got in early and got out early. They have moved on to Duncan, Garnett, Iverson... and you will see a push for Vince Carter, Shaq, Zo... here soon since they are ripe to pump and promote.

I would still put money in Jordan and get it at the right price. 8’s in the $10-13 range and 9’s in the $35-48k range - super high end 9’s will command a premium since those will be the ones people try to buy to bump. Only need to be right once. Be patient and keep letting them come down in price if you are a buyer.

Also saw a nice BGS 9 went for $40K (but it was a best offer so not sure) and a really nice SGC 9 for almost $37K last night....Good to see those come back up a bit.

Anyone think the PSA 10 at Heritage will close higher than where it's currently sitting or is it already maxed out at $576k?

Anyone know what the Heritage PSA 10 finished at last night? Apparently you need to be a member of Heritage Auctions in order to see the closing price.

Thats actually wrong, the $700k+ transaction happened during the correction of the card recently. most know a celebrity bought it, so its a weird comp to begin with.

These 10's are so rare. Like the finest art. I have a 10 Nike Promo (120 pop) and it would take so much to get it from me. With how much garbage people are putting $'s into out there, a Jordan 10 RC should be looked at like a Picasso.

Anyone else notice and/or bothered by the border chipping on that Heritage 10? Lower right blue border and bottom border near the left corner. I know for damn sure that if I were the submitter on that card it wouldn't "gem."

Not only did a celebrity buy it, but the celebrity based on reports is Timbaland who is also involved with the Chernin group - which includes Mark Wahlberg, KD, Mark Cuban and others. The Chernin group is the funding for the $40+ million into Goldin auctions. There were actually 2 separate 10’s that both hammered at the same price with the same seller on the same day. What are the chances of that happening especially considering prior to that the top sale was in the $300k+ range.

So you’re saying that they’ve gone from 300k to 588k. And not 700k? Got it.

No. From December 31st they went from $200k to $222k January 4th to $350k on 1/29/21. Then two sold for $738k on 2/1/21 mentioned above. The next sales were Heritage and REA for $645k and $612k respectively, and then Heritage just had one for $588k. Hope this helps.

Of course the next 57 Jordan PSA 10 sale wouldn't go back to $300k; there were two seemingly legit sales over $700k. It's going to take time to see where it settles. Once there's a sale over the previous low, then we can start to speculate where the new floor is. I'm also not going to fully trust a Goldin sale to rely on at this point either. (Although the one they have up now is nicer than the one HA hammered last night.) It's clear there was something up with the Timbaland sale once he was known to be the buyer and then an investor in Goldin.

Even with the scarcity of this card, the price has swung up ~$500k and down ~$150k all in a span of 2 months. That's crazy.

All things being equal, would you guys prefer a #57 in a BGS 8.5 or a PSA 8?

My LCS has a nice BGS 8.5 that is trending a few k below what the PSA 8s are going for, so I was just curious.

If there is any possibility of selling in the future then PSA 8. Otherwise the one that looks better.

PSA 8

What are the subgrades on the 8.5? I have one of each and my 8.5 has 2 9.5 subs. Surface and Edges. 8 Centering... 9 Corners. I'd sell my 8.5 before my PSA 8.

If I'm looking to sell, then the deciding factor is centering. If to keep, then a combination of color quality and centering. To heck with the plastic.
