Two words for ya. Kris Bryant. Remember him? What has he done in his career? ROY, MVP, World Series Champion..... Shoulder issues killed his hobby hype. Issues linger... He'd play fine and have to sit out a couple days. He even changed his swing to prevent pain in his shoulder. Wouldn't let go of the bat when he swung. I think he might be back finally. He's going to need 2 great years to get the hobby back on his side.

As a player and as a human.... Tatis will be fine. Hobby hype on the other hand.... Once it's gone... It's not easy getting it back.
You left out that Bryant did all that on the Cubs! It literally can not get bigger than that in the baseball world, being part of a Cubs World Series win. How quickly we forgot how impossible that once felt.

We'll see what the MRI says, but non-contact injuries are never a great sign. I would be shocked if he's back in a week or two.

If I didn't know better, and maybe I don't, I'd think that there are some people here that were actually looking forward to this.

You can't compare injuries apples to apples. You can look back at this at the end of Tatis' career and say it was nothing. Or you can say it was the beginning of the end. 22 vs 26 isn't really relevant in my opinion. YET.

If anything, getting an injury out of the way younger could be argued as better. As long as a full recovery is expected.

There always are. These people can claim they don’t wish injury on anybody. But their desire to be right about young superstars failing outweighs their ability to be decent human beings.

Not sure what you read but if he has the surgery he will be out for 6 months, like Mondesi was

In 2019 (July 17th) Mondesi was out for 6 weeks with a left shoulder subluxation, then re-injured on a diving play (you can see on video the trainer runs out onto the field and pops his shoulder back into place) and was out for 6 months

Tatis will likely have the surgery as it appears to be a chronic issue and will only get worse if they don't put him under the knife

I remember Matt Kemp having a ridiculous April in 2012 to follow up his big 20111 season. 12 homers over .400 BA. Was the most expensive chrome auto hitting new territory (besides Pujols). Raw base autos over $500, a lot at the time.
Then he got hurt in May, and another center fielder in LA also wearing #27 came up at the exact same time. Mr. Trout took the baseball world over on short notice. Kemp would go on to destroy his non throwing shoulder running into the outfield wall that season and never be the same. Everyone had already moved on to Trout in the span of weeks anyways.
Baseball is a tough, tough, sport to maintain hobby relevance. It’s near impossible.

I rarely posted in here, but I like Tatis and think he's great, and saw him being a potential super star stud.

There is no denying that this injury is completely unknown how it might impact him this year, and future years.

I would really hope not. Fans of the game should always want to see the players play 162 games. I guess everyone who posts here isn't necessarily a fan though. So sadly, you may be right.

Exactly. The Bryant hype was insane. 4 year stretch... College Player of the year, Minor League player of the year, MLB ROY, MVP/World Series Champion. That's not something you see everyday. And like you said... As a freaking Chicago Cub. That's how far his hobby hype has fallen.

Bryant has a player will be totally fine. 30 HR 90-100 RBI.... But those numbers aren't anything to set you apart from many others in the league.

While this holds true, the market is just a different world today. If kemp did that in 2020, his chrome autos would have been $2000+.

Actually that money vaporized last night. Will have to be new money. And they may peak into vintage to avoid something similar.

I keep thinking if Tatis had a serious, reoccurring, lingering, injury prone body part —- like his Shoulder, the Padres would know about it, and not given him one of the richest contracts in baseball History —— what am I missing?

what's funny is that i remember Trout make a big splash with that HR he robbed, that's when i first really heard of him. Then a little later, he made a second catch like that in Baltimore i think.

the rest is history...

Exactly...I'm sure there a people giddy about this or any other superstar they hedged their bet against. The power of being able to say "I told you so" on a message board means a lot to those type of people.

Seeing 203 chrome psa 9 sell for $80, 203 refractor psa 10 for 600.

There will be panic and where there’s panic there’s opportunity.

I don't think anybody is being toxic.

There are just a lot of salty people here today because a lot of people have a lot of money invested in Tatis cards.

I think most everyone is sad for baseball the sport -it's gonna lose it's brightest player for a period of time.

However, this is a basebal CARD forum, not the San Diego Padres message board and certainly not the Fernando Tatis fan club message board - it is a baseball card discussion board on a sports cards retailers website. Big difference there.

People should be a little more thick-skinned and listen to both perspectives - it's nothing personal here, the dual insight could be eye-opening for everyone.
