Great for the Nets, great for the NBA, great for Jason Collins. He shouldve been signed all year.
But, the Nets arent winning the title. He is filling a hole because that team needs bigs. Its pretty cool but its not like this will alter the balance of the title landscape.

Also, here's what the coach said regarding Collins signing: "The decision to sign Jason was a basketball decision,” King said in the press release. “We needed to increase our depth inside, and with his experience and size, we felt he was the right choice for a 10-day contract.” I know that could be lip service, but find me a better big that would've signed a 10 day contract and we'll talk. It's a lost season anyways for the Nets and they probably don't want to go much further into the tax if they can help it and a 10 day helps them there.

And I agree, but the Nets are a vet team, they need a vet. Overseas maybe, but you're not really gonna find that in the D league as much. I think Collins makes more sense for their team than your average D leaguer.

I think he'll stay with the Nets for the rest of the season though, since if they didn't sign him for longer, they'd have two empty roster spots. Might as well fill them.

I initially thought it was more stunt...but I'm just saying I'm not so sure now. The pickings are very slim and Collins is more of a Reggie Evans type than comparable options...so I can see how it makes sense too.

Glen Davis CHOSE the Clippers over the Nets.
Has nothing to do with Jason Collins or what the Nets chose guys. Come on

As for Collins, Kidd pushed for his signing, so I would tend to think the man knows a little more about basketball then you guys. And there's more to basketball then PPG and RPG. Collins was a key cog on the Nets two Eastern Conference championships. The Nets +/- was always higher when he was on the court. He was considered a good locker room guy and a leader. There's more to sports than stats. |

It's not name calling when you are an idiot. Yes, he was key cog, yes he was a leader, and yes he was a good locker room guy. And yes, you're an idiot.

Whatever he was, Collins was a Nets guy, and he played with Jason Kidd, so the move's not really surprising at all. Instead of insisting this is about headlines, how about you find a d leaguer or overseas guy who would've been a better option than Collins. The only info I can find is that when they tried out Collins they also worked out Ivan Johnson and "other bigs" including some guys in the D league and some guys coming back from China. They wanted Jordan Hill or Glen Davis but those never came to fruition.

One that played with Jason Kidd/knows his style and can be depended upon to play solid post defense on bigs like Roy Hibbert come playoff time? I don't think that's something easy to find. You can't just grab a 23 year old or rookie and depend on them to do that.

Now we just need to get him his one point!
![]() He looks like he's giving it his all out there, falling to the ground for boards.

He sucks, he always has. I don't see how that's debateable. This is making for an historic day but not because he's good at basketball. I don't think he will last past his 10 day contract.

I had Nets season tickets for a few years including all of Jason Collins' first run with the team. He offers little to nothing as an on-court NBA player at this point. He's a legitimate seven footer that doesn't average two boards per game. That's the opposite of effective.
Even his first run wasn't that great. Big man, takes some fouls, played (note the ED), great help defense way back when but the mobility just isn't there anymore and hasn't been in years. That being said--yes, it is a big deal that he's an active, openly gay NBA player, it's a very big deal. And it's kind of awesome that it's in Brooklyn. Congrats to him and the Nets. |

In a thread that was deleted when Collins came out, SportsItUpCards stated openly that he was against Jason Collins being openly gay and being in the nba. He also stated that a main reason he was upset because he was scared of his kids having to watch him play...and I guess the possibility of watching him play turning them gay. Not trying to start anything, he said all of this so I'm just putting it out there. I'm sure he'll cry and get this deleted somehow but I'm simply re-stating what he said back when the Collins story first broke.

I don't remember exactly what was said, but it was at least very similar to this. |
