It’s only as of late that prices have hit what they have. LaPorta never commanded the money that prospects are getting now. Speculators are going nuts trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Like I’ve said before, people who are buying on credit are the ones who stand to lose the most. Guys with deep pockets will take a loss and move on to the next big thing. I own 0 Vlads but every player in this rookie class except Tatis is a minimum 2 years older than him. Tatis is also older than Vlad as well. Alonso is 4 years older than Vlad so that is a horrible example to say jumped right in at a younger age.

Acuna (who was older) and Soto both have skewed the 20 year old's who come up and mash right out of the gate. Trout's first taste of the majors didn't go very well either.

Early during his Rookie of the Year campaign in which he hit 26 HRs and batted .293, Acuna had a stretch where he was 9 for 52 with 18 Ks one week after first being called up (May 9th through 19th).

Guerrero is currently 7 for 46 with 11 Ks through a similar stretch.

Small sample sizes are ridiculous when someone shows prolonged and obvious skills against older and elite competition.

For all of us who’ve actually laced up spikes in our life, we know sometimes it’s a very small thing that breaks you out of a funk. A key at bat where you scratch out a bloop hit. A couple walks. Sometimes it can be just something dumb that makes you rediscover the Joy. Heck, before an at bat a teammate makes you laugh by making fun of some doofus eating cracker jacks in the third row and suddenly you’re a kid again and raking.

True, I'd probably still take a long look at picking up one if they dropped below 6, but I'd still be on the fence at that point. Under 5 is when they become a good deal again IMO

Sadly, this is the fault of the over reaction nation we live in. 1 good game = hall of famer, 1 3k game = BUST .. it was what made me stop watching baseball and just become sick of it in 2013. Hearing so much about Puig before he ever accomplished anything just got so annoying. It was the same with Vlad, MLB.com would write an article about how he clipped his nails like his dad did in the clubhouse over actual baseball. It was nice that it died down a bit while he was struggling, but we all knew it would come roaring back on his first home run.

I guess I more get annoyed with the hot take generation that we have become, but I will say it makes it rather easy to make money on cards. Buy when people panic sell and sell them the same card a week later for 30% more .. easy money so that is the benefit of it.

Troll here. I got back into collecting in 2017 (like a lot of people), and the Vlad craze was in its early but already blossoming stages. I don't know why anyone would want to afford his cards now, and I think that is what a lot of reasonable people are 'mad' about. What has he done to garner this attention? Why is he priced at and almost surpassing Trout? From a non card side, I am already sick of this tub of lard... there was an article .. the top article on MLB.com yesterday about how he can make the Blue Jays sweep (a two game series I think.. so sweep come on) the Giants, and he went 0 for with a pair of strike outs.. so much for that. I just don't get why we have to anoint him as the greatest ever before he has even swung a bat in the majors? Why can't we just wait and see if he will be what people think he will be? Anyways that is what annoys me.. Of course they are. Plenty of the “experts” here paid up in hopes for a hot start and a quick flip. Now they are left praying to get out while the market has turned incredibly soft. 4 have sold in the past week while 20-40 others are sitting stagnant and praying somebody saves them. Which is highly unlikely to be the case with how things are going.

Yea man, it's just the same people over and over again. Nobody is gonna jump ship that has any idea what they are doing.

For starters, those people were buying base Gems at $2-400 so there is no risk of holding THIS ENTIRE SEASON. It's like last year with Acuna. Can stuff dip, sure, can it tank, no.

Second, he's so young and he just started playing. His 20 y/o struggle is still a BB every other game and a game where he blasted 2 HRs in his 1st 16.

As it warms up and he gets more MLB ABs, his numbers will come up. I imagine some tape measure shots in July and August.
