I had forgotten about the VG label, because this seller (who is a consignor) lists all his raw cards that way. I’ve bought from him before and found no real issues with the cards, so I just glossed over the listed condition when I first saw it.

Moral of the story: you can get some great deals from dcsports87 listings.

Also, it looks like we’re going to have a great debate moving forward about Chrome vs. Update. Obviously, that’s been stirring hobby-wide for a little while now, but it’s certainly going to be part of the Vlad collecting world. Personally, I like both and love having numbered parallels from both sets.

I don’t mind the Update photo so much, except for being able to see Sogard so clearly in the background. The fact that Vld is developing into an asset at 1B makes a fielding picture more palatable.

I’m a little worried about the market. I just bought a US1 vintage stock for $221.

Maybe I just got lucky, considering that Alec Bohm and Jo Adell Vintage Stocks have been selling for considerably more. But still, it was an auction for a sub-100 flagship, from a high-volume consignor.

What am I missing? Is it the Chrome effect? Was it just a one-off that just slipped through the cracks?

I think the condition being listed as "very good" with no specifics given might have scared some bidders off on that one. It's why I didnt bid on it.

I've said this before, the picture of an ungraded card leaned up against a stack of graded one's tells me there is almost ZERO chance that card has a shot a Gem Mint. That being said, I don't usually bid on known cherry picked cards. I saw the listing and just skipped right past it. I stay away from the larger auction houses that don't offer good front/back photos and fail to comment on overall condition as well. I've had bad luck in the past and I think people abuse them by sending all their garbage because they know they won't disclose the damage.

Don't know that it quite qualifies as Must Have, but I like the complete set chrome variations (and not just for Vladdy). Chrome card, different image, comparatively low pop (for Vlad its PSA 10 is 1/20th the pop of the base chrome, 1/3rd the pop of chrome refractor).

I'm going to go with must haves and try not to just list most valuable. Obviously most of the parallels for these (where they exist) are better, but I think these are the base level must haves.

1. NNO
2. Chrome
3. Bowman Chrome Auto(could replace with Topps Chrome)
4. Heritage
5. Update or Update Chrome

I will admit, you did get a great deal on the vintage stock. Many people like me never gave it a shot due to how they list their cards. At least you were able to capitalize on it!

I've been thinking that his power numbers will be decent early on, but not necessarily eye-popping (like a 25 HR pace in the first half). Then at some point after the all-star break, the home runs will start coming in bunches and he'll end up with around 33 bombs...to go along with a .350 average, of course. (That's not wishful thinking, is it?)

Also, when Teoscar and Springer are back in the lineup, and if Tellez and Gurriel can get rolling, that could really improve the opportunities for Vlad to tee off.

If I had to narrow it down, MUST Haves for me are only 3 cards:

1. 2019 Topps Chrome (Base, Refractor, Colors; pick according to your budget)
2. 2019 Topps S1 Mystery Auto
3. 2016 Bowman Chrome Auto

1 & 2 will get you covered on key 2019 RC Logo cards. If you are a Chrome guy then you're covered; if you are a Flagship guy then the Mystery will get you covered. Either way as NNO moves both of them should do well.

I think I'm one of the biggest endorsers of the Sapphire line, but for Vlad I'd much rather have a similarly priced RC 201 Color Refractor instead of a Base Sapphire. In the long run to me: TC Gold /50 > Sapphire Base

Reallyyyyy wish this had a 10 auto, but I absolutely love this card. Got it for what I think is a great price in Spring Training. Strongly considering sending to PSA because I'm worried the 9 auto grade kills some value, but the auto looks good in person and the scan doesn't do this card justice. Either way, happy to have it!

I’m going to give the seller a gentle reprimand, though, for putting it in harm’s way. The card arrived in a bubble mailer with no cardboard or any other additional protection. It was barely one step above throwing a $1 card in a check envelope.

As someone who puts anything above $300 in a Priority Mail box, I have to say that was not cool!

Thanks man hope it comes back a gem again ! I suppose I’ve got an okay eye for grading the black parallels. I’ve graded a Tatis Jr/ Bichette and the Vlad all 10’a in the past two years. Luckily I kept this one and PSA will preserve it for me in their safe so that I cannot sell it Lol..got plenty of Vlads tho still and I gem’d quite a few golds/rainbows from 19’ Update as well to pay for all my raws I own now. None of them are worth submitting but for PC I don’t worry about it. Not smart on my part but hey.....

For the most part, I almost never go prospecting. Don't have any 1st Bowman cards for guys like Tatis, Vlad, Acuna, Soto, etc. But Wander isn't like the usual "Well, he's the current #1 rated prospect so I guess we all have to sprout hobby chubbys for him" player.

He's special and the best part is that the people buying Wander seem to be only interested in 1st BCA cards whereas all of us who are hanging out in the Acuna/Soto/Vladdy/Tatis threads look beyond the conventional game plan and find hidden treasures.

There are a lot of opportunities with Wander right now because of that.

I have no patience. I like to take profit and never look back. Cards don't really mean anything to me, they just take up space. That being said I like money and if holding will get me more of that then I will hold.

It’s really hard to say. No Vlad Transcendent has sold in nearly three months. There’s only one currently listed on ebay, and that’s a BGS 10 from COMC, where it’s listed for $1,799. (So we know it’s less than that!)

For such a rare niche card, when the Vlad market is just starting a major ascension (hopefully), the only way to truly find out is to auction it.

All 3 are great cards that every PC should have.

I saw how low the population report was on the All Star Stamp PSA 10s and I like how the image matches his foilboard. I picked up 5 for $50 each. There is definitely room for growth. PSA grading fees alone would be over $100 and it would take 8 months to get them back. I’ll have them in less than a week.

I like the Sepias and think they will eventually develop a decent fanbase as long as they keep making them. Anything looks better than the negative refractor. If I ever pull one of any player, it will get listed immediately so I don't have to see it any longer.

Great looking card! I've got the chrome refractor version. Like most players it seems, second year rookie cup heritage are always a lot better looking than the rookie heritage cards in my opinion.

That's a serious record to be broken if it happens. The hit streak gets all the love but OB streak is even more impressive.

What’s even more amazing is that he can still be leading in OBP despite having a three-game hitless streak, when the season is so young.

If it happened in July, okay, he has 300 at-bats to absorb the mini-slump. But the Jays have only played 18 games.

In 2019, everyone only has 36 total copies (20 base, 10 gold, 5 Holo Blue, 1 Black). Wish I had been able to find a Tatis before these blew up but still pleased with a Holo Blue Vlad (and if they ever tank I can always sell the diamonds on the black market).

Completely agree and I don’t even own any chrome yet, just paper for myself but the chrome has some awesome potential as you guys said. Great looking cards I need to get in it before their unattainable b/c that seems where it’s headed. Can’t even believe his stuff is as reasonable as it is at the moment.

I agree.. I’m not buying as an investment. I’m a big blue Jays fan, and I’ll be the first to admit that I thought he was overhyped. I bought a bunch of stuff early on, and made 10x my investments on 2016 chrome. I had to sell as I never thought it would be sustainable. Well as many raw /2019’s as I own I still pulled the trigger on an Update Gold BGS true gem+ that’s been on the bay. A story for another day but absolutely puzzling to me the fact that BGS true 9.5’s are less then half of a PSA 10. Don’t get me wrong I prefer the PSA slab but I truly believe BGS is a perfectly worthy grader. I’ll take it
